The Director of Infection Prevention provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Infection Prevention and Control Program across Onvida Health. Reporting to the Chief Patient Safety Officer, this leader is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous monitoring of infection prevention and control practices designed to promote patient, visitor, and healthcare worker safety. Works collaboratively with the Chief Quality Officer, Executive Leadership Team, infectious disease physicians, and clinical leaders, the Director leads surveillance, consultation, education, and evidence-based infection prevention initiatives across the health system. The role serves as a key internal consultant on healthcare-associated infections, infectious diseases, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement efforts through data collection, analysis, reporting, and multidisciplinary team facilitation. The Director of Infection Prevention provides leadership for organization-wide infection prevention activities, ensuring alignment with patient safety, quality, and performance improvement goals. The Director of Infection Prevention position will report to the Chief Quality Officer while partnering closely with the Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Medical Officer and operational/medical staff leadership. Collaborates daily with Microbiology, Employee Health, Facilities/Construction, Environmental Services, Sterile Processing, and Regulatory Readiness to ensure alignment and accountability. Develops, implements, and evaluates the organizational infection prevention program. Conducts an annual risk assessment and develops annual Infection Prevention plan based on population(s) served, services provided, and analysis of surveillance data. Develops initiatives and interventions to successfully achieve Onvida Health Board Quality and Patient Safety goals.

Serves as the organization's subject matter expert and trusted advisor for the Infection Prevention program, and related regulatory requirements, providing guidance through collaboration, consultation, and influence. The Director of Infection Prevention communicates infection prevention information and data to the Infection Prevention Council, administrative/medical/nursing leadership and other committees as assigned. Analyzes and identifies any trends in infection prevention data and reports in an appropriate timeframe. Develops and provide timely, actionable feedback and reports to clinical, administrative and support staff on all Infection Prevention initiatives. Oversees documentation and reporting communicable diseases as defined by federal, state, and local levels. Evaluates and manages investigations of infection related outbreaks, implements appropriate control measures and monitors effectiveness of control measures. Assists in the development of annual Board Quality and Patient Safety goals, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement. Translates evidence-based guidelines into practical policy, education, and practice change. Utilizes PI methodology and High Reliability principles as a means of enacting change. Defines the scope of the project and selects appropriate PI tools to aid in efficiency, reliability, effectiveness and ensure sustainability of the initiative. Ensures that customer needs and expectations are considered in the development of and continuous improvement of processes, products, and services. Monitors and analyzes, using appropriate analytical tools and statistical process control, process and outcome measures to evaluate effectiveness and sustainability.

Demonstrates personal accountability for financial results through development of annual operational & capital budgets, resource planning, and management of departmental performance based on organizational goals and operational priorities. Engages staff in efforts to improve operational efficiency, contain costs, strengthen preparedness capabilities, and optimize the effective utilization of organizational resources while maintaining regulatory compliance and operational readiness. Demonstrates responsible stewardship of departmental and organizational resources through prudent financial management, effective oversight of emergency preparedness resources, grants, contracts, and operational planning initiatives. Identifies opportunities for process improvement, operational standardization, resource optimization, and responsible cost savings while supporting organizational goals, regulatory compliance, operational sustainability, and long-term effectiveness.

Participates and ensure team members round on units/departments observe compliance with infection prevention policies/procedures and provide just in time coaching (e.g. Disinfection processes, hand hygiene and PPE). Manages and directs the activities of the Infection Control staff, including evaluations and competency assessments. Assures 24/7 coverage of department. May be required to work or be on call weekends and/or second shift based on organizational needs.

Exhibits commitment to operational excellence through leadership, initiative, accountability, and effective execution of organizational infection prevention initiatives. The Director of Infection Prevention provides system governance for related CMS Conditions of Participation, DNV, APIC standards and NHSN reporting. Ensures compliance with CDCs NHSN definitions and CMS regulations for participation as well as reporting requirements to the State and local health departments. Acts as a liaison between the community and/or public health department for potential or actual communicable disease issues. Develops, interprets, and assists with implementation and education of infection prevention policies and procedures. Reviews and maintains all department policies, Infection Control Manual and departmental infection control guidelines to ensure compliance with current CDC, Department of Health, OSHA, and DNV standards. Ensures regulatory compliance and survey readiness. Oversees the NHSN database for accuracy, analytics and reporting. Oversees Infection Prevention and Control Construction Risk Assessments (ICRAs) for construction, renovation and maintenance projects and monitors compliance with infection prevention recommendations to reduce risk of communicable disease exposures to patients and team members. Collaborates with Value Analysis Committee in establishing infection control criteria for products and assists in the evaluation of new products. Aligns antimicrobial stewardship with Pharmacy and Laboratory using the antibiogram and surveillance data to address resistance. Demonstrates use of appropriate methodologies to identify improvement opportunities and use of rapid cycle improvement tools (i.e. PDSA, FMEA, reliability science, bundle science, process flows).

The Director of Infection Prevention will serve as a liaison and subject matter expert to all hospital staff, overseeing a strong team of Infection Preventionist Staff. Provides leadership and oversight for assigned staff through effective recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, performance management, coaching, and professional development activities. Ensures the workforce maintains the competencies necessary to support organizational infection prevention initiatives. Partners with Human Resources and organizational leadership to support workforce planning, succession planning, leadership development, and employee retention initiatives. Fosters an environment where employees feel empowered to identify infection concerns, report concerns, and participate in continuous improvement.

The Director of Infection Prevention will collaborate with the Department of Health in the reporting of communicable diseases, and provision of information to assist the DOH in case investigations, as requested. Acts as an expert consultant for all hospital departments/staff, other institutions or agencies, and the community by providing information and guidance in problem solving or recommending corrective actions to prevent transmission of infections. Participate in Hospital, Medical Staff and departmental committees, as requested or assigned, to provide Infection Control expertise, disseminate surveillance findings, update Committee's Infection Control knowledge, and assist in the selection of corrective actions designed to prevent and control infections.

• 5+ years of experience of progressive infection control, infectious disease or epidemiology experience
• 5+ years supervisory, teaching and/or administrative experience
• 3+ years of Infection Control & Prevention experience in acute care
• 1+ year of leadership experience
• Must be proficient in DNV, CMS, AZ Dept Public Health and other regulatory agency rule/regulations, hospital policies and standards
• RN AZ or compound License
• Certificate in Infection Control (CIC)
