Job description

The Greater New Bedford Surgical and Laser Center was opened in 1986 with the express purpose of rendering high quality, state-of-the-art eye surgery to patients of all ages, especially those with cataracts, glaucoma, retinal disease, or corneal disease. We also do oculoplastic procedures. The center is designed specifically with the needs of the patient and their family in mind, and the entire process, from initial examination in our clinics in the Eye Health Vision Centers upstairs to the final surgical outcome, is conducted in a pleasant and comfortable environment.

Job Summary:

The Nurse Director in the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and administration of the facility and the efficient delivery of patient care in the field of ophthalmology. This position involves overseeing the daily surgical flow, coordinating staff activities, managing medication and supply orders, conducting regular audits to ensure compliance with established protocols and standards, and administrative matters such as assisting the Practice Director with the budget, marketing to expand the surgery center, and other duties as requested.

This position is in Dartmouth, MA. ** There are no evening or weekend hour requirements.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow of subordinate staff in the clinic.
  • Assists Practice Director with constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Ensure that staff are adequately cross trained for multiple roles within the ASC.
  • Build strong relationships with physicians, employees, managers, and vendors, fostering collaboration and outstanding patient care.
  • Responsible for ensuring staff meets KPIs.
  • Coaching Staff Members

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Surgical Flow Management:
    • Oversee and manage the surgical schedule to ensure efficient utilization of resources and staff.
    • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other team members to ensure a seamless flow of surgeries throughout the day.
    • Address any unexpected changes or emergencies that may arise during the surgical day.
  2. Staff Meeting Agenda Assistance:
    • Draft the agenda for staff meetings.
    • Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve patient care, operational efficiency, and team collaboration.
    • Participate and help lead staff meetings and communicate important updates to the nursing team.
  1. Medication and Supply Ordering:
    • Take responsibility for managing the inventory of medications and surgical supplies.
    • Collaborate with the ASC's procurement department to ensure timely and accurate ordering of necessary items.
    • Monitor and track medication usage to prevent shortages and wastage.
  2. Monthly Audits:
    • Conduct monthly audits to assess the compliance of staff and processes with established protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
    • Identify areas for improvement and work with the ASC management to implement corrective actions.
    • Ensure that all documentation, equipment, and procedures meet the ASC's quality standards.
  3. Staff Supervision and Support:
    • Provide guidance and leadership to the nursing staff in the ASC.

Requirements

  • RN Massachusetts License
  • Bachelors' Degree
  • 10 years leadership experience
  • ASC or Operating Room preferred
  • Must possess the physical, mental, and cognitive skills needed to complete essential tasks, including abilities such as learning, remembering, focusing, categorizing, and integrating information for comprehension, problem-solving, and timely decision-making.
