Director of Digital Media for Athletics

The University of Lynchburg, a private, regional university in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia, is seeking applicants for a full-time, Director of Digital Media in the Athletics Department.

This position reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Director of Athletics. The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and will be carried out by theDirector of Digital Media. It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior.

Job Type: Full time

Job Purpose: Work in conjunction with the Director of Athletic Communications to further the publicity and promotion of Lynchburg’s 24 intercollegiate athletics programs. The person will be responsible for leadership of the department’s digital efforts including streaming of games, new media storytelling, social media, and exploration of new digital platforms to amplify the student-athlete experience at Lynchburg.

Specific Job Duties: - Oversee existing equipment maintenance and updates for a variety of streaming components including tricaster, computers, cameras, etc.

  1. Gameday broadcasts
  • Oversee live webcasts of home athletic events
  • Provide play-by-play commentary and color analysis
  • Assign staffing for athletics/special events
  • Develops relationships with external networks to maximize exposure for Lynchburg team (examples: FLO College,ESPN3, Lax Sports Network)
  1. Brand and Story amplification
  • Use new media platforms to highlight student-athlete experience and success
  • Continue expansion of the reach and scope of athletic communications
  • Develop relationships with staff, faculty, and student-athletes to better tell the story of the institution and its athletic department
  1. Student and part-time worker leadership
  • Recruit, train, and retain undergraduate student employees to assist with webcasting, photography, and graphic design
  • Build relationships with faculty in associated fields (communication studies, sport management, etc.)
  • Oversee a graduate assistant position and part-time/contract employees on an as-needed basis
  • Work with students one-on-one to develop career skills

Experience/Skills: 

  • Ability to communicate effectively and have the ability to understand, comprehend and follow directions
  • Must have good teamwork skills
  • Full range of creative tools and streaming background
  • Quality content and streaming production in a fast tempo environment

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged standing
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs.
  • Extended work periods

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree
  • Successful digital media creation and implementation
  • Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite, Streaming platforms and equipment

Preferred qualifications:

  • Masters Degree
  • Experience in a Collegiate Athletics setting
