Project Director โ€“ Major ICI Construction Projects

Location: Calgary, AB

MatchBox Consulting Group is recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing General Contractor seeking an experienced Project Director to lead the successful delivery of large-scale building projects across Alberta.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior construction leader who thrives on complex projects, enjoys building strong client relationships, and has a proven track record delivering projects valued at $100M+. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership from project pursuit through completion while supporting the growth and development of project teams.

The Opportunity

As a Project Director, you will provide executive-level oversight on major construction projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, efficiently, and profitably. Youโ€™ll work closely with clients, consultants, operations leaders, and project teams while helping drive business growth and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the execution and overall performance of large-scale ICI construction projects.
  • Develop project strategies that support successful delivery, profitability, and client satisfaction.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, trade partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Support business development efforts and contribute to securing future project opportunities.
  • Provide oversight of budgets, schedules, risk management, contracts, and project controls.
  • Ensure projects are appropriately resourced and positioned for success.
  • Champion safety, quality, and operational excellence across all project phases.
  • Monitor project performance and proactively address critical issues and risks.
  • Oversee project closeout activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop project management teams while fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
Qualifications
  • 15+ years of construction industry experience.
  • 10+ years in a senior project management or project leadership role with a General Contractor.
  • Demonstrated success delivering major ICI, commercial, institutional, or mixed-use projects valued at $100M+.
  • Strong understanding of project delivery, construction operations, budgeting, scheduling, and contract management.
  • Experience leading large multidisciplinary teams and managing complex stakeholder relationships.
  • Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline is considered an asset.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
Whatโ€™s in It for You?

This is a rare opportunity to join a respected construction organization with a strong pipeline of landmark projects and a people-first culture. In addition to a competitive compensation package, youโ€™ll have the opportunity to lead significant projects, influence business strategy, and contribute to the longโ€‘term success of a high-performing organization.
