A leading telecommunications infrastructure organization is seeking a Senior Director of Telecom Operations to oversee construction and field operations across a major Texas market.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced telecom construction professional with a proven track record of managing large-scale fiber deployment programs, driving operational excellence, and leading high-performing teams.


About the Role

The Senior Director of Telecom Operations will provide strategic and operational leadership for telecom construction activities across the region. This individual will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards while driving profitability, customer satisfaction, and team performance.

The successful candidate will oversee multiple operational teams supporting aerial, underground, directional drilling, fiber splicing, and FTTH construction projects.


Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Lead day-to-day telecom construction operations across the assigned market.
  • Oversee aerial, underground, fiber splicing, directional drilling, and FTTH deployment activities.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Drive productivity, workforce planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Implement operational best practices and performance reporting processes.


Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and mentor Construction Managers, Project Managers, Supervisors, and field teams.
  • Build a culture focused on accountability, safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Support recruiting, workforce planning, employee development, and succession planning efforts.
  • Coach operational leaders to improve performance and execution.


Financial & Business Management

  • Manage market-level budgets, project profitability, labor costs, and production metrics.
  • Review forecasting, job costing, and operational performance data.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and maximize margins.
  • Ensure effective utilization of labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor resources.


Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Maintain strong relationships with customers, municipalities, utility partners, and subcontractors.
  • Serve as a key operational contact for major client accounts.
  • Support business growth initiatives by identifying new opportunities and operational capabilities.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service through consistent project execution.


Safety & Compliance

  • Champion a safety-first culture throughout all operations.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, customer requirements, and company policies.
  • Partner with safety leadership to drive continuous improvement initiatives and reduce risk.


Qualifications

Required Experience

  • 7+ years of leadership experience within telecommunications construction, utility construction, or infrastructure operations.
  • Strong understanding of fiber optic construction including aerial, underground, directional drilling, and splicing operations.
  • Experience managing multiple projects, crews, and operational teams simultaneously.
  • Strong knowledge of project management, scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, and job costing.
  • Proven ability to develop teams and improve operational performance.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software platforms.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout the region.


Preferred Experience

  • Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) deployment experience.
  • Experience leading telecom construction operations within Texas.
  • OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training.
  • Experience working with major telecommunications providers and utility clients.


Travel

  • Approximately 25-40% travel throughout the assigned market and surrounding project areas.
