FlightSafety operates the world’s largest fleet of advanced full-flight simulators and award-winning maintenance training at Learning Centers and training locations in the United States, Canada, France and the United Kingdom.

Purpose of Position

• Review engineering requirements, simulator specifications, malfunction documentation, test requirements, and aircraft data related to Automatic Flight Control Systems (AFCS), Air Data Systems (ADS), and Fly‑By‑Wire (FBW) systems.
• Develop, integrate, and maintain AFCS, ADS, and FBW simulation software.
• Develop control laws and system models for Flight Director/Autopilot, Yaw Damper, Auto‑Trim, and related auto flight functions.
• Develop Air Data System models including pitot‑static systems, temperature probes, smart probes, and Air Data Computers.
• Develop Fly‑By‑Wire models, logic, and control system behavior.
• Transform engineering flow diagrams into high-order computer language and working simulation models.
• Use model‑based development tools (picture‑to‑code) to create simulation software.
• Integrate Auto Flight and FBW systems with control loading and motion systems.
• Develop test programs, customer test plans, and test guides for AFCS, ADS, and FBW systems.
• Perform standardized checkout procedures for assigned systems.
• Conduct Auto Flight system testing under the direction of a Lead Engineer or Manager.
• Collaborate with other engineering groups to ensure systems meet all test and qualification requirements.
• Participate in on‑site simulator qualification activities.
• Support customer testing, address discrepancies, and ensure systems are ready for customer use.
• Travel, shift work, or customer site support may be required.
• Maintain professional behavior and contribute to a cooperative team environment.
• Protect export‑controlled material and ensure security of technical information.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of assigned tasks.
• Maintain regular attendance and the ability to work safely and attentively.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Electrical (or equivalent experience).
• Experience with FORTRAN, UNIX, C++, and MATLAB preferred.
• Knowledge of Windows, UNIX, Linux, and Concurrent operating systems preferred.
• Experience with scripting languages preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering data, drawings, and specifications.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a passport.

Work Environment
• Combination of office and simulator lab environments with moderate noise levels.
• Frequent sitting, reaching, talking, and hearing; occasional standing, walking, climbing, or stooping.
• Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs; requires close and color vision.
• Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, heights, electrical risk, and vibration.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Develops, supports, and maintains software components, interfaces, features, subsystems, and systems across the development cycle.

Apply skills in requirements identification and analysis; software design and construction; software testing and verification; problem identification and resolution; maintenance and troubleshooting; user support and multi-disciplinary team collaboration.

Apply skills in interpreting schematics, wiring diagrams to create software models of physical systems. 

Uses disciplined software development methods, including construction techniques, test methodologies, configuration management, and software tools; uses and contributes to product and process management information systems and documentation.

Mentors and assists other software engineers.

Apply skills in document preparation to create customer test and internal/external user guides.

Apply presentation skills to demonstrate the operation of systems to internal and/or external customers.

Consults with other software and hardware engineers as part of a team. Communicates effectively between departments.

Designs prototypes for new technologies, algorithms, structures, and processes. Conducts research and development.

Supports computer system and hardware requirements, integration, and maintenance.

Develop engineering tools

Remains current on state-of-the-art technologies through technical papers, periodicals, and conferences.

Travel, shift work, and special work hours may be required to accomplish some of the above tasks.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or other applicable technical field; and two years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or other applicable technical field preferred.

Minimum Experience
