What you’ll be doing 

As the Sound Design Instructor, you create and deliver hands-on curriculum that teaches clients the fundamentals of sound design, audio recording, podcast production, music production, sound effects creation, film scoring, editing, and mixing for film and digital media projects. Through collaborative and project-based learning, clients develop technical skills, creative problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and confidence while gaining experience with industry-standard tools and workflows. The instructor fosters an inclusive learning environment that empowers clients to tell stories through sound and prepares them for opportunities in media production and related career pathways. 

In this role, you will: 

  • Teach sound design, audio recording, podcast production, music production, sound effects creation, film scoring, audio editing, and mixing through hands-on, industry-informed instruction.  

  • Create engaging lesson plans and learning activities that help students develop technical audio skills, creative expression, storytelling abilities, and career readiness.  

  • Support students with individualized coaching, constructive feedback, and encouragement tailored to their strengths, goals, and learning styles.  

  • Guide students through the audio production process for studio projects, including recording, sound design, dialogue editing, music production, mixing, mastering, and final audio deliverables.  

  • Help students apply sound and music to film, digital media, podcasts, and other creative productions while fostering collaboration across production teams.  

  • Partner with team members to support student progress, vocational development, employment opportunities, and successful participation in studio and community-based experiences.  

  • Maintain a safe, organized, and supportive learning environment that encourages creativity, confidence, communication, and teamwork.  

  • Support program documentation, audio equipment oversight, studio organization, and other responsibilities that help the program operate effectively and provide high-quality learning experiences. 

What we’re looking for 

We are looking for someone who is compassionate, dependable, and ready to make a positive impact. 

Education 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required 

  • Bachelors degree preferred 

Experience 

  • Three or more years of experience in screenwriting, filmmaking, acting instruction, theater arts, or media production.
  • Experience teaching or coaching acting, storytelling, scriptwriting, or film production in a classroom, workshop, or community-based setting
  • Experience teaching, coaching, or supporting others in building new skills. 

  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills. 

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, stay organized, and meet deadlines. 

  • Comfort using Microsoft Office and other basic workplace technology. 

Preferred 

  • Experience developing original screenplays, short films, or creative media projects from concept through production.
  • Knowledge of character development, scene construction, dialogue writing, and cinematic storytelling techniques.
  • Experience with budgeting, location scouting, script supervising, assistant directing, or other production leadership responsibilities. 

  • A portfolio, demo reel, or other samples of relevant film and media work. 

Other Requirements 

  • 21 years of age or older 

  • A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and an acceptable driving record are required for this role. 

  • This role requires travel within the region where services are provided. 

  • Final candidates must successfully complete a background check. 

Physical Demands & Work Environment 

This position requires the employee to regularly stand, walk, sit, talk and hear. The employee must be capable of writing, using a computer keyboard, telephone and related office equipment. Ability to lift 10lbs. required.
