Job description

OVERVIEW

An established, employee-owned industrial manufacturing organization with over a century of operating history is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support continued growth across its operations.

The company serves a diverse set of highly specialized industries, including sectors tied to aerospace, defense, energy, mining, and complex industrial applications. Much of the work involves custom, engineered-to-order manufacturing, requiring a high level of technical problem solving, adaptability, and collaboration.

This role has been created to support:

  • Increasing demand for electrical engineering across facilities and capital equipment
  • Continued investment in new technology, automation, and modernization
  • Ongoing production, maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives

The environment blends legacy equipment, modern automation, and highly specialized processes, creating a unique opportunity for an engineer who enjoys both hands-on troubleshooting and forward-thinking design.

WHY THIS ROLE IS UNIQUE

This is not a traditional engineering role:

  • You’ll work in an environment where no two projects are exactly the same
  • You’ll collaborate with teams solving problems that few manufacturers encounter at this scale and complexity
  • You’ll contribute to products that support mission-critical applications across multiple industries
  • You’ll operate in a culture that emphasizes long-term thinking, ownership, and shared success

POSITION DETAILS

  • Design machine electrical systems, including panel layouts, schematics, and control systems
  • Define scope and specifications for new and retrofit equipment
  • Select components such as panels, MCCs, drives, sensors, and instrumentation
  • Research and evaluate emerging technologies and solutions

Power Distribution & Facility Infrastructure

  • Develop and maintain plant electrical distribution layouts and schematics
  • Support arc flash studies and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Specify and improve facility-level electrical systems

Capital Projects & Execution

  • Support capital projects from concept through implementation
  • Develop procurement specifications and support vendor selection
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to execute projects efficiently

Operations & Continuous Improvement

  • Troubleshoot complex electrical and control system issues in a live production environment
  • Partner with production and maintenance teams to improve reliability and performance
  • Support startup and commissioning of new equipment
  • Contribute to ongoing continuous improvement initiatives

Collaboration & Influence

  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, maintenance, and vendors
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship where needed
  • Contribute to a strong culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork

HOW SUCCESS IS MEASURED

Success in this role looks like:

  • Safe, reliable, and maintainable electrical system designs
  • Clear and scalable facility power distribution
  • Strong partnership with production and maintenance teams
  • Effective troubleshooting and responsiveness
  • Thoughtful evaluation and adoption of new technologies

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The ideal candidate brings both technical depth and an ownership mindset:

  • 5+ years of experience in industrial manufacturing, power distribution, or machine design
  • Strong experience with:
    • Electrical schematics and panel design
    • Machine electrical systems
    • Power distribution systems
  • Hands-on troubleshooting capability in operational environments
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, and industrial safety standards

Preferred:

  • PLC / HMI / controls experience
  • Exposure to automation and advanced manufacturing technologies

CULTURE & OWNERSHIP MINDSET

This organization operates under a 100% employee-owned model, which creates a fundamentally different environment than most companies.

  • Employees are viewed and treated as owners, not just employees
  • Decisions are made with a long-term perspective, not short-term gains
  • There is a strong emphasis on accountability, collaboration, and shared success
  • The culture reflects servant leadership and high support across teams

This role is best suited for someone who:

  • Thinks like an owner and values long-term impact
  • Is motivated by building something meaningful over time
  • Thrives in an environment that balances autonomy with accountability

Ownership & Wealth-Building Opportunity:

  • Participation in a 100% employee ownership program (ESOP)
  • Profit sharing and long-term value creation tied to company performance
  • Structured to reward employees over time, creating meaningful long-term financial upside
  • Total compensation over a career can significantly exceed traditional salary-based roles due to ownership participation

BENEFITS

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company contribution
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Life and disability insurance
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Additional benefits to be discussed during the interview process

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Combination of office and industrial/manufacturing floor
  • Exposure to heat, noise, dust, and heavy equipment
  • Hands-on involvement with active production systems
  • Occasional off-hours support as needed
