Director Devsecops information

What does a director of DevSecOps do?

A Director of DevSecOps leads and oversees the integration of security practices into the DevOps process within an organization. They are responsible for developing strategies, managing teams, and implementing tools to ensure applications and infrastructure are secure throughout the software development lifecycle. This role collaborates with development, operations, and security teams to automate security controls, monitor threats, and ensure compliance with industry standards. Ultimately, the Director of DevSecOps works to minimize risks while enabling efficient and secure software delivery.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a director of DevSecOps?

To thrive as a Director of DevSecOps, you need deep expertise in cybersecurity, software development, and IT infrastructure, often supported by a degree in computer science or related field and significant leadership experience. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure), containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and certifications like CISSP or CISM are typically required. Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and excellent communication skills help drive cross-functional collaboration and promote a security-first mindset. These skills and qualities are crucial for effectively integrating security into development processes, managing risk, and ensuring organizational resilience.

How does a director of DevSecOps typically collaborate with development and security teams to foster a culture of shared responsibility?

A Director of DevSecOps works closely with both development and security teams to integrate security practices seamlessly into the software development lifecycle. They facilitate regular cross-team meetings, establish clear communication channels, and advocate for security as a shared responsibility rather than a separate function. By implementing automated security tools and continuous feedback loops, they help teams proactively identify and address vulnerabilities, ensuring that security is considered at every stage of development. This collaborative approach not only enhances product security but also fosters a culture of trust and accountability across the organization.

What is the difference between Director Devsecops vs Security Manager?

Job description

Position Summary: Aleut Federal is seeking a senior, market-facing technical leader specializing in custom software development and DevSecOps transformation across U.S. federal environments. This role operates across the full lifecycle - from opportunity shaping and technical solutioning through capture, proposal development, pricing, and post-award delivery assurance. The successful candidate will directly influence technical win strategies while maintaining accountability for execution fidelity. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer-architect who can design modern, cloud-native systems, implement secure DevSecOps pipelines, and translate engineering capabilities into differentiated, winning solutions. This is a build, sell, and validate role with direct impact on growth and delivery outcomes. Core Responsibilities Growth, Sales Engineering & Solutioning * Lead technical solutioning for federal opportunities involving custom application development, cloud-native modernization, DevSecOps, and platform engineering. * Directly influence and help drive technical wins by defining solution discriminators, shaping technical win themes, and leading customer-facing architecture discussions, whiteboarding sessions, and demos. * Partner with Business Development and Capture to shape opportunities pre-RFP and translate engineering approaches into clear mission, performance, and cost outcomes. * Present and defend technical approaches to clients, partners, and internal stakeholders and serve as a senior technical voice in opportunity strategy. AI-Enabled Engineering (Required) * Aleut Federal expects AI to be embedded into all engineering and DevSecOps practices. * Integrate AI into the SDLC, including AI-assisted code generation, automated test generation, defect detection, documentation support, and requirements refinement. * Apply AI within DevSecOps pipelines for intelligent test selection, anomaly detection in builds and deployments, and pipeline optimization. * Implement semi-autonomous engineering and release workflows with human oversight, auditability, and rollback controls. * Required: practical use of AI tools within development or pipeline workflows. Strongly preferred for Senior Principal: delivered AI-enabled engineering pipelines with measurable improvements in quality, speed, or cost. * Ensure AI usage aligns with federal security, privacy, and compliance expectations. Capture, Proposal & Pricing * Lead and contribute to technical proposal development. * Author and own complete technical sections, including solution architecture, custom development approach, DevSecOps strategy, and transition approach. * Build BOEs aligned to labor mix, automation strategy, tooling, and delivery assumptions. * Ensure proposed solutions are executable, cost-efficient, and clearly differentiated. Delivery Assurance & Technical QA * Ensure alignment between proposed solutions and delivered systems. * Provide technical oversight during startup and early execution and identify risks in architecture, pipelines, security, and release management. * Support delivery teams in resolving technical challenges and maintaining proposal-to-delivery fidelity. Technical Marketing, Thought Leadership & Industry Engagement * Develop DevSecOps and engineering solution briefs, capability messaging, and reference architectures. * Actively participate in industry events, client briefings, and technical forums and be willing to speak in front of teams, customers, and conference audiences. * Position Aleut Federal as a credible modernization and DevSecOps partner. Required Qualifications * S. Citizenship (U.S. Citizens only). * 7+ years of U.S. federal experience with a Bachelor's degree. * Hands-on experience in custom software development, DevSecOps pipeline implementation, and cloud-native architectures. * Experience supporting technical solutioning, capture, and proposal development. * Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders. * Ability to obtain a Position of Public Trust. Preferred Qualifications * Experience with AWS GovCloud or Azure Government. * Familiarity with FedRAMP, CMMC, NIST, and Zero Trust frameworks. * Experience integrating AI into engineering workflows. * Experience with platform engineering models. * Active Top Secret clearance.
