Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity Associate (1+ Years) – Transactions Focus

Direct Counsel represents a well-regarded Am Law firm seeking a Junior to Senior level associate to join its Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity practice. This is a premier opportunity to advise on cutting-edge privacy and data issues in high-profile corporate and technology transactions.

You’ll work with leading private and public companies across industries including AI/ML, cloud computing, software, and fintech—helping clients navigate complex data, privacy, and cybersecurity considerations in strategic deals.

What You’ll Do:

  • Advise on privacy, data processing, and cybersecurity matters in M&A, capital markets, and commercial transactions
  • Conduct diligence and risk assessments related to data and privacy issues
  • Draft and negotiate data protection and privacy-related provisions in transaction documents
  • Counsel clients on regulatory compliance and evolving data privacy frameworks
  • Collaborate with deal teams on high-value, tech-driven transactions

What We’re Looking For:

  • 1+ years of experience in privacy, data security, or technology transactions
  • Strong transactional background (M&A, capital markets, or tech transactions required)
  • Experience advising technology companies or working with data-driven businesses preferred
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and enforcement trends is a plus
  • CIPP certification is a plus
  • J.D. with strong academic credentials and excellent communication skills

  • Multiple locations: Preference for candidates based in Austin or Palo Alto
