Job description

The Louisiana Supreme Court, located in the historic French Quarter of New Orleans, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Court Security Officer. This position is responsible for providing comprehensive security for the Court's facilities, grounds, judicial personnel, employees, and visitors while maintaining a safe and secure environment. Officers work under the general supervision of the Director of Judicial Security and must be available to work flexible schedules, including days, weekends, holidays, and special assignments.
The Court is seeking candidates with a minimum of three (3) years of law enforcement experience. Applicants must possess a valid Louisiana driver's license, a clean driving record, no felony convictions, and the ability to successfully pass a background investigation and skills testing. Current Louisiana P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certification from an accredited Louisiana police academy is required. Additional training, including the U.S. Marshals Service State and Local Court Security Course, may be required.
Primary responsibilities include conducting security patrols of the Court building, grounds, parking facilities, and perimeter; operating security control systems including CCTV surveillance, electronic access control, alarm monitoring, and card access systems; screening employees and visitors using magnetometers, hand wands, and VOTI image detection equipment; responding to alarms, emergencies, suspicious activity, disturbances, and other security-related incidents; conducting preliminary investigations; preparing clear, concise incident reports; and providing courtroom security.
Court Security Officers also provide protective details for Justices and judges as assigned, escort employees working after hours, inspect facilities for fire hazards and unauthorized access, monitor parking areas, and perform other security-related duties to ensure the safety of Court personnel and visitors. Additional responsibilities may include training newly hired security personnel, assisting with daily operational tasks, and observing proper protocols related to Court property and ceremonial functions.
Successful candidates must demonstrate strong investigative, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to prepare accurate reports using proper law enforcement terminology. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Outlook, is required. Candidates must exhibit sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to remain calm under pressure while using appropriate force when necessary and operating firearms and other security equipment safely.
This position offers an excellent State of Louisiana benefits package, including Office of Group Benefits (OGB) health, dental, life insurance, participation in the Louisiana Clerks' Retirement System, paid parking, and paid leave.
Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
