Job description

JT4, LLC provides engineering and technical support to multiple western test ranges for the U.S. Air Force, Space Force, and Navy under the Joint Range Technical Services Contract, better known as J-Tech II. JT4 develops and maintains realistic, integrated test and training environments and prepares our nation's war-fighting aircraft, weapons systems, and aircrews for today's missions and tomorrow's global challenges.
JOB SUMMARY - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
The Computer Scientist - openMCT will direct software and systems engineering services, within a working group. You will identify potential risks, provide technical guidance, foster collaboration to achieve development goals, maintain thorough documentation, and ensure system stability to meet schedule test goals.
Job Duties & Experience
  • Expert proficiency in Java and enterprise frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot) for modular software design.
  • Strong understanding of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+)/TypeScript, and modern web development practices.
  • Expert experience with designing and implementing REST APIs, WebSockets, and real-time data integration between Java backends and Vue frontends.
  • Ability to work with time-series/telemetry data and build complex data visualizations.
  • Strong debugging skills using browser developer tools, as well as testing frameworks for both frontend (e.g., Vitest, Jest) and backend (e.g., JUnit, Mockito).
  • Proficiency with Git and collaborative source control workflows (e.g., branching strategies, code reviews).
  • Ability to write clear technical documentation, provide technical mentorship, and communicate effectively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of aerospace/mission control telemetry concepts.

REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION, TECHNICAL, AND WORK EXPERIENCE
A bachelor's degree in an associated discipline and a minimum of 4 years of related experience. Or a master's degree in an associated discipline and a minimum of 2 years of experience. Or a PhD in an associated discipline.
In addition, a Computer Scientist III must possess the following qualifications:
  • Experience with computer-based systems and applications
  • Programming skills in languages used for job-specific programming tasks
  • Familiarity with the application of industry standard hardware and software design and documentation techniques
  • Experience with systems engineering and software development lifecycles
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Good planning/organizational skills
  • The candidate must possess a valid, state issued driver's license
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

SALARY
The expected salary range for this position is $135,000 to $165,000 annually.
Note: The salary range offered for this position is a good faith description of the expected salary range this role will pay. JT4, LLC considers factors such as (but not limited to) responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and business considerations when extending an offer.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a typical office environment with no unusual hazards. Occasional lifting (up to 20 pounds), constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, and constant mental alertness are required.
Travel to remote company work locations may be required.
