Job description

The Fire Cadet serves as a participant in the Colerain Fire and EMS Cadet Program and is provided opportunities to observe, learn, and assist with non-hazardous fire and EMS operations under the direct supervision of department personnel. The cadet program is designed to introduce students to the fire and emergency medical services profession while promoting leadership, teamwork, professionalism, and community service.

Cadets are expected to maintain a professional appearance and conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the values and mission of Colerain Fire and EMS. Cadets may assist personnel with station duties, equipment checks, public education events, community risk reduction initiatives, administrative projects, training evolutions, and other approved support functions. Cadets may observe emergency incidents and training activities but shall not participate in hazardous operations or perform duties prohibited by department policy, state law, or program guidelines.

Responsibilities may include assisting with station maintenance, preparing training materials, supporting fire prevention and public education programs, participating in ride-along opportunities, attending scheduled training sessions, and maintaining program documentation or assigned coursework. Cadets are expected to follow all department rules, safety procedures, confidentiality requirements, and chain of command expectations.

The cadet will demonstrate dependability, willingness to learn, positive communication skills, and respect toward department members and the public. Participation in the program is intended to foster career exploration and prepare students for future educational and employment opportunities in fire, EMS, public safety, or related fields.
