Plasma Torch Operator
Position Summary
The Plasma Torch Operator is responsible for safely setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC plasma cutting equipment to produce quality parts that meet engineering drawings, production specifications, and company quality standards. This position requires accuracy, productivity, and a commitment to safety and teamwork.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate CNC and/or manual plasma cutting equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work orders, and specifications.
  • Select appropriate materials, consumables, and cutting parameters.
  • Verify material type, thickness, and dimensions before cutting.
  • Load and unload materials using authorized material handling equipment.
  • Monitor machine performance and adjust maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance, including cleaning equipment, replacing consumables, and reporting equipment issues.
  • Maintain production records, inventory documentation, and accurately record time worked.
  • Identify and report quality concerns, damaged materials, or equipment malfunctions.
  • Work with engineering, fabrication, welding, and production personnel to meet production schedules.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with 5S standards.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Experience operating CNC plasma cutting equipment preferred.
  • Manufacturing or metal fabrication experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings.
  • Basic computer skills for machine operation and production reporting.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot minor equipment issues.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of plasma cutting processes, equipment, and metal characteristics.
  • Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts (training provided if required).
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a positive team attitude.
  • Consistently adhere to assigned work schedules, demonstrating punctuality and reliability.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequently bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and perform repetitive hand and arm movements.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 pounds; heavier materials are moved using mechanical lifting equipment.
  • Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, sparks, dust, fumes, noise, varying temperatures, and overhead lifting equipment.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment.
