Job description

About DESRI
DESRI (formerly D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments) is a market-leading owner and operator of renewable energy projects throughout the United States. We have acquired or developed approximately 13 gigawatts of contracted capacity across a portfolio of over 85 renewable energy projects in 24 states.
At DESRI, our culture is grounded in rigorous analytics and thoughtful risk-taking, with a strong emphasis on creativity, intellectual curiosity, and continuous improvement. We operate with lean teams that prioritize efficiency and minimize unnecessary bureaucracy, enabling individuals to take ownership and move quickly. We value open, constructive dialogue and believe it leads to better outcomes. Above all, we are driven to go the extra mile and support one another, fostering a collaborative environment built on accountability, integrity, and care.
About the role
DESRI is seeking a talented and highly motivated individual to join its team as an Associate or Manager, Data Science (title commensurate with experience). This individual will play a key role in the company's enterprise data science strategy and help drive data-informed decision-making across the organization.
This individual will partner closely with teams across the organization to build scalable analytics capabilities and deploy advanced modeling solutions that optimize DESRI's growing renewable energy portfolio. This leader will oversee data science initiatives spanning forecasting, operational analytics, predictive maintenance, portfolio optimization, market intelligence, and business performance reporting.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with strategic leadership skills and is excited about applying advanced analytics and machine learning to complex challenges in the renewable energy industry.
What you'll do
  • Lead DESRI's enterprise data science strategy and roadmap across operational and corporate functions
  • Partner cross-functionally to identify and prioritize high-impact analytics initiatives
  • Develop predictive and prescriptive models to improve asset performance, operational efficiency, forecasting accuracy, and portfolio optimization
  • Translate complex technical findings into actionable business insights for senior leadership and non-technical stakeholders
  • Evaluate emerging AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics technologies relevant to the renewable energy industry
  • Support the continued evolution of DESRI's data infrastructure, reporting environment, and business intelligence capabilities
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision-making across the organization

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in data science, statistics, computer science, engineering, mathematics, economics, or a related quantitative field required.
  • 3+ years of experience in data science, advanced analytics, machine learning, or quantitative modeling, including leadership experience managing teams and enterprise initiatives.
  • Strong expertise in statistical modeling, machine learning, predictive analytics, optimization techniques, and data visualization.
  • Advanced proficiency with Python, SQL, and modern analytics and machine learning frameworks.
  • Experience working with cloud-based data platforms and enterprise analytics environments.
  • Strong understanding of data engineering principles, ETL workflows, and large-scale data environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Experience in renewable energy, utilities, energy markets, infrastructure, or industrial operations is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with forecasting models, SCADA data, IoT systems, energy market analytics, or grid operations is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical acumen, and exceptional problem-solving capabilities.
  • Intellectually curious individuals with an entrepreneurial mindset, strong attention to detail, and a collaborative approach will excel in this role.
  • At DESRI, we consider a wide range of factors to determine your compensation. We rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, location, skills, and experience. The expected annual base salary for this position is $150,000 to $175,000 (depending on title and experience).
  • Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, paid time off, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
