Job description

Purpose

The Director of Student-Athlete Performance is responsible for broad supervision of strength & conditioning programming and execution, ensuring optimal efficiency and effectiveness across all sport programs. As a member of the support staff team, a sound leadership presence is required. The Director of Student-Athlete Performance performs responsibilities in alignment with the department vision of being a leading institution in performance and meaningful student-athlete experience, and consistently demonstrates valued behaviors of respect, grit, constant growth, and integrity.


Essential Job Functions

  1. Development of year-round, evidence-based, strength and conditioning programs for each sport program, in conjunction with the coaching staff, that enhance overall student-athlete well-being and athletic performance while modifying programs based on competitive season, training cycles, rehabilitation status, and individual athlete needs.
  2. Educate participants on proper lifting techniques and injury prevention, as it pertains to strength and conditioning.
  3. Implement performance testing and maintain quantifiable data to show improvements in student-athlete athletic performance
  4. Upkeep and maintenance of records on the strength program of each team and specific workouts of each individual student-athlete
  5. Ensure that S&C staff and programming provide a safe, cohesive, and equitable program for all student-athletes.
  6. Utilize current research and best practices in strength and conditioning training
  7. Work closely with Athletic Trainers regarding injury prevention, rehabilitation progression, and return-to-play protocols
  8. Oversee the safety, cleanliness, and upkeep of all S&C facilities and equipment
  9. Hire/terminate/manage any staff, work study, or volunteers associated with S&C/Sport Performance department
  10. Work closely with all university constituents to maintain effective and productive communication flows and safety operations, including emergency action plans
  11. Attend meetings as necessary and/or as requested by the Director of Athletics and other University constituents.
  12. Participate in professional development activities to maintain current certifications and industry knowledge/best-practices
  13. Ability to work in a high-paced environment under stress.
  14. Performs additional responsibilities/duties as required and performs special projects as needed or requested.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Performance, or related field.
  2. Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) status from the National Strength and Conditioning Association Certification Commission.
  3. Minimum of three years working with athletic teams, or performance centers.
  4. Basic knowledge of National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) standards and compliance
  5. CPR/AED certification


Preferred Qualifications

  1. Master's degree
  2. Minimum of five years working with athletic teams, or performance centers.
  3. Strength and Conditioning Coach Certification (SCCC) in addition to CSCS
  4. Experience working with multiple sports teams simultaneously
  5. Experience utilizing athletic performance management software


Physical Demands

  1. Ability to lift/carry/relocate equipment and supplies around the S&C facilities


Working Conditions

  1. Work performed in various locations in and around the Life University campus, including athletic fields and gymnasiums
  2. Weekend, evening, and holiday work may be required. Must be flexible to accommodate a fast-paced and time demanding profession
