Director of Purchasing – Lead Strategic Procurement and Cost-Control for Premier Residential Builds


Job Overview

  • Company: Elevate Design + Build
  • Salary/Pay Rate: $105,000 - $135,000+ per year 
  • Location: Lee's Summit, MO
  • Job/Employment Type: Full Time
  • Project Scope: Residential Home Building


The Opportunity

You will serve as a visionary executive leader, driving the strategic success of all purchasing, trade partner management, and cost-control functions. This role allows you to optimize operational efficiency and mentor a dedicated team while directly shaping the profitability of a growing residential builder. You will have the autonomy to refine procurement systems with the support of a collaborative executive team that treats home building as a people business.


How You Will Make an Impact

  • Supervise and mentor the purchasing agents to ensure high-quality operational delivery.
  • Direct key functions of purchasing, estimating, and systems management to maintain strict budget integrity.
  • Formulate and implement procurement strategies to drive team performance and ensure alignment with company goals.
  • Lead the recruitment, selection, and negotiation efforts with key vendors to secure highly cost-effective terms.
  • Conduct rigorous job cost analysis and oversee the EPO process to improve corporate financial efficiency.
  • Resolve complex real-time vendor and trade issues to prevent project delays and maintain construction quality.


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience specifically in the purchasing department of a firm within the residential construction field.
  • Proven ability to lead procurement teams and execute complex cost-control strategies with minimal oversight.
  • Strong knowledge of residential construction methods, material sequencing, and subcontractor scopes of work.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills necessary for managing cross-department workflows and team dynamics.


Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven work experience as a Director of Purchasing in the construction industry.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Business Management.
  • Advanced knowledge of value engineering, organizational effectiveness, and financial principles.
  • Demonstrated experience in mentorship or training junior team members in a fast-paced environment.
