Job description

Performs advanced technical fire inspections on new and existing construction, plan reviews, and public education work in the Bureau of Safety Services. Work involves performing annual and semi-annual inspections of existing buildings and of new construction at various stages, performing reviews of building construction plans, and presenting educational programs at schools and other events. Work is reviewed by a superior for completeness and accuracy through reports, conferences, and results obtained.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires qualified applicants to possess one of the following:
• An Associate's Degree in Fire Science, Fire Protection Technology, or closely related field; current Cardiopulmonary (CPR) Certification, State of Florida Driver's License, Florida Fire Safety Inspector I and II certifications; National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Certified Plans Examiner; minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Florida Fire Inspector, Building Code Inspector, or Code Enforcement Inspector,
OR
• Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; current CPR Certification, State of Florida Driver's License, Florida Fire Safety Inspector I and II certifications; NFPA Certified Plans Examiner; minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a Florida Fire Inspector, Building Code Inspector, or Code Enforcement Inspector.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
The selected candidate for this position MUST complete the following:
• Palm Beach County Fire Rescue (PBCFR) Fire Inspector III Task Book within 11 months of hire, AND
• Florida Fire Instructor II Certification within 11 months from date of eligibility.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred qualifications include:
• Associate's Degree in Fire Science/Technology.
