Essential Functions
This is a full-time professional staff position in charge of the daily operations of Benton Hall, campus apartments, and student engagement activities for the college district. The Director has direct supervision over three to four Resident Assistants. The Director is responsible for creating a community that supports involvement, learning, diversity, and academic success for students. This role necessitates having on-call duties during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Manage the day-to-day operations of residence hall(s) or apartments
  2. Maintain occupancy/roster and maintain key control/inventory.
  3. Maintain administrative and informational records. o Supervise a 24-hour desk operation where applicable; be responsible for safe monies, if applicable (i.e. fees received after business hours)
  4. Interview, select, train, supervise, and evaluate Resident Assistants.
  5. Develop programs and activities that support student life and adjustment to CBC for all students (ex. new student orientation)
  6. Develop, Implement, measure,
  7. and maintain systems of early intervention and outreach to support student success.
  8. Serve as the first-level student conduct officer; review, investigate, and resolve student concerns. Follow student conduct processes and policies.
  9. In collaboration with Athletics, direct and supervise campus-wide recreational and intramural sports (e.g., disc golf, pool table areas, etc.)
  10. Establish a strong, positive learning environment within residential areas and the college community. Includes resolving disputes with residence life, roommates, and apartment tenants.
  11. Identify trends in CBC on-campus housing and develop and recommend strategies to better support students through regular programming.
  12. Oversee all registered student organizations.
  13. Provide leadership in creating a community that supports students of underrepresented and diverse populations.
  14. Educate staff and students to self-enforce policies and respect the rights of others through community standards through res life orientation via Comevo.
  15. Provide crisis management support and intervention, which may be required on weekends, at night, etc. Serve on an on-call duty rotation. Respond to additional emergencies as necessary. Supervise 24-hour coverage of the area.
  16. Develop a security program and coordinate emergency procedures, i.e., power outage, fire drills, medical emergencies, bomb threats, etc. Educate residents about emergency procedures.
  17. Communicate with Physical Plant/Facilities Director and immediate supervisor on building needs and preventive maintenance projects.
  18. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of working in residence life
  • Knowledge of student support programs and services, and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Familiarity with college students' learning and development theories.
  • An understanding of how to manage auxiliary budgets to achieve desired results is required

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in higher education, education leadership, counseling, or a closely related field.
- American Heart Association Certification in Basic Life Support, First Aid/CPR, and AED.
Supplemental Information
Skills:
Computer proficiency, including web-based programs, Microsoft Office, and email as a significant mode of communication/documentation.
Other Duties
Will participate in college responsibilities such as the Institutional Effectiveness Committee, Task Force, etc.
The employee must also be able to do exterior building inspections twice per semester or when buildings are closed for breaks.
Travel Requirements
Travel is required for this position. Must have a valid driver's license and auto insurance to travel to other locations to attend meetings/training. A personal vehicle is required if a CBC vehicle is not available. We encourage carpooling with other CBC employees.
Work Environment
May require lifting (up to 50 lbs), bending, climbing, and walking. On a 24-hour emergency call
