Job description

Position: Assistant Varsity Girls Basketball Coach
Location: Austin Catholic High School
Type: Contract
Position Overview

Austin Catholic High School is seeking a passionate, faith-filled, and dedicated Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach to join our coaching staff. This individual will support the Head Coach in developing student-athletes both on and off the court by fostering athletic excellence, teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, and personal character in alignment with the mission and values of Austin Catholic High School.

The Assistant Coach will help create a competitive and positive basketball program while mentoring student-athletes in their athletic, academic, social, and spiritual development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Head Coach in planning and leading team practices, conditioning sessions, and game strategies
  • Support the organization and execution of games, tournaments, team travel, and offseason workouts
  • Provide individualized instruction to improve players' basketball fundamentals, skills, and overall basketball IQ
  • Assist with evaluating player performance and provide constructive feedback to support continued development
  • Help analyze team performance through statistics and film review to improve practice and game strategies
  • Promote a culture of discipline, accountability, teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship
  • Mentor student-athletes by encouraging academic success, leadership, and personal growth
  • Assist with game-day responsibilities, including equipment setup, warmups, bench management, and in-game coaching
  • Support the supervision of student-athletes during practices, competitions, and team events
  • Help maintain equipment, uniforms, and inventory while ensuring facilities are clean and organized
  • Collaborate with the Head Coach, athletic department, parents, and school staff to promote a positive experience for all student-athletes
  • Represent Austin Catholic High School with professionalism and integrity while supporting the mission of the school
  • Attend coaching clinics and professional development opportunities to continue growing as a coach
Qualifications
  • Previous basketball coaching or playing experience
  • Strong understanding of basketball fundamentals, offensive and defensive strategies, and player development
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with the Head Coach and athletic department staff
  • Passion for mentoring high school student-athletes and helping them succeed both on and off the court
  • Knowledge of MHSAA and CHSL rules and regulations preferred
  • Commitment to modeling strong character, sportsmanship, and Christian values
Requirements (All paid for by ACHS)
  • Complete or have completed Protecting God's Children training through the Archdiocese of Detroit
  • Submit to a background check if one has not been completed within the previous six months
  • Hold a current CPR/First Aid certification or obtain one before the season begins
  • Complete all required MHSAA and CHSL coaching certifications, including CAP courses
  • Maintain compliance with all school, league, and state athletic requirements
