Job description

Reporting to the Manager, Facility Operations, the Security & Operations Assistant will help with preparation for programming with baseball and softball events at the Youth Baseball Academy. Events include Base programming, Hustle baseball and softball games, community events, high school/college baseball and softball games and practices. The assistant may be expected to provide day-of event assistance for baseball and softball games as well as some front office administrative duties. The Assistant will also be responsible for general repairs, maintenance of the facility, and field turf upkeep.

The Security & Operations Assistant, licensed with the Security Officer Management Branch, will also provide a safe and pleasant environment for all visitors, guests and employees to the property. The Assistant performs protective and enforcement functions when coping with undesired behavior, disturbance, crime, threats of life and property. In all situations, the Security & Operations Assistant will perform their duties in a courteous, professional and restrained manner, through legal methods approved and in compliance with provisions of the District of Columbia Code, Sections 4-114 and 4-115 and company policies.

This is a part-time, hourly position expected to work 25-30 hours per week. This position is designated as an “essential employee” and may be required to stay beyond regular work hours and/or report in from off-duty to assist with minimum staffing coverage.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Facility Operations

  • Assist with daily field and facility maintenance during the week.
    • Includes field turf grooming
    • On-field maintenance for the three baseball fields
    • Includes general facility/building repairs and maintenance
  • Assist with internal and external events at the Academy occasionally on the weekend.
  • Assist with operations duties to support athletic partners, Nationals RBI, Hustle Baseball and Softball programs and events.
  • Assist with on occasions front office duties during Academy Base Programming.
  • Assist with the setup, execution, and breakdown of Academy food access initiatives, including meal service for Scholar Athletes, family food distributions, and community food access events.
  • Support weekly farmers market operations, including vendor setup, site preparation, inventory movement, event logistics, and participant support.
  • Assist with food access facility operations, including kitchen preparation, equipment setup, storage organization, sanitation, and distribution logistics.
  • Additional duties may be assigned in accordance with the assistant’s interests and talents.

Security

  • Performs duties in a respectful, professional and dignified manner ensuring compliance with established standards.
  • Conducts the required patrols as outlined by your Post Instructions and Supervisor Informational Updates in a manner that is investigative, complete, competent and dedicated to the standards of the company.
  • Responsible for maintaining order on the property, utilizing the respect, care and to the greatest extent possible, positive customer service in dealing with guests, visitors, employees and unknown individuals.
  • Responsible for ensuring that trespassers and undesirable individuals are kept off of the property, utilizing the legal methods outlined in the provided policies and procedures. Take recommended action to deal with undesired conduct and law violations in compliance with established policy; make no mistaken accusations.
  • Prepared to take immediate and appropriate action in responding to emergencies, situations and events as situations dictate.
  • Submit well-written and comprehensive reports setting forth facts of complaints, observations, actions taken and investigative findings.
  • Advise the Security Coordinator, Senior Director of Operations of all activities that would be of interest, importance or concern regarding the property or any activity at the Academy.
  • Complete all duties as otherwise assigned in a timely and professional manner.

    Compensation:

    The projected wage rate for this position is $21 per hour. Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s: qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements. Starting salaries for new employees are frequently not at the top of the applicable salary range.
