Job description

Head of Electrical Engineering

Costa Mesa, CA

Step Into a Defining Leadership Role

We're at an inflection point as a firm. With a senior partner preparing to retire, we're looking for an experienced electrical engineering leader to help guide what comes next.

Our project portfolio continues to expand across healthcare, K-12, and public-sector work. With that growth comes the need for someone who can bring clarity, consistency, and strong leadership to the electrical discipline--while helping shape how the firm evolves moving forward.

This position offers more than departmental oversight. It's an opportunity to influence direction, work closely with firm leadership, and grow into a long-term ownership role.

Position Overview

As the leader of electrical engineering, you'll oversee technical delivery, mentor a small but capable team, and collaborate directly with firm leadership on both projects and strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Direct the design of electrical systems including power, lighting, low-voltage, and fire alarm
  • Lead complex projects in healthcare and education, from renovations to new construction
  • Ensure adherence to applicable codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, Title 24, healthcare requirements)
  • Maintain consistency and quality across design documentation

Client Engagement

  • Serve as a senior technical resource for key clients
  • Participate in design coordination, client meetings, and construction-phase support
  • Build lasting relationships through clear communication and dependable execution

Team Development

  • Manage and mentor a small group of engineers and designers
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence
  • Implement processes that improve efficiency and scalability

Strategic Contribution

  • Work alongside firm leadership on growth initiatives and operational improvements
  • Support expansion in core markets, particularly healthcare and education
  • Help refine internal workflows as the firm transitions into its next phase

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (advanced degree a plus)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in electrical engineering
  • Strong experience with healthcare and/or K-12 projects
  • Proven ability to lead projects and mentor staff
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and standard design tools
  • Strong communication skills and leadership presence

What You'll Achieve

  • Become a trusted advisor to key clients
  • Improve project consistency and coordination across the discipline
  • Develop a high-performing, engaged engineering team
  • Establish stronger standards and processes within the department
  • Position yourself for long-term leadership and potential ownership

Compensation & Benefits

  • Highly competitive salary
  • Pathway to equity participation
  • Full benefits package including medical, dental, retirement, and paid time off
  • Support for continuing education and professional development

If you're ready to take on a role with real influence--where your decisions shape both projects and the future of the firm--this is a chance to step in at the right moment.
