Overview:
Sentara Medical Group has a part-time, night position available for an Acute Care Advanced Practice Provider to join the Hospital Medicine team at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital in Virginia Beach, VA. The Hospital Medicine Program at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital is of moderate size with an average census of 90 patients daily, and a team of 17 physicians and 4 APPs.
Schedule: 10-hour night shifts; 2 shifts per week

Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Hospital Medicine team as a Night-Shift Advanced Practice Provider. The APP will provide high-quality inpatient care overnight, including admissions, cross-coverage, and collaboration with the nocturnist team.
New graduates with a strong interest in hospital medicine are encouraged to apply, and will be supported through a structured onboarding and training program.
Responsibilities
  • Perform admissions from the ED and direct transfers, including history, physical exam, assessment, and initial management plans
  • Provide cross-coverage for hospitalized patients with timely evaluation of clinical changes
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests and perform therapeutic interventions within scope
  • Communicate effectively with nocturnist physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary teams
  • Complete thorough and timely documentation in the electronic health record
  • Participate in safe and effective handoffs at shift transitions
  • Support quality, safety, and patient experience initiatives
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and learning activities

Our structured onboarding process is designed to support both new graduates and experienced APPs transitioning to hospital medicine:
  • Comprehensive orientation with shadowing, supervised shifts, and graduated autonomy
  • Access to clinical learning modules focused on common inpatient conditions (e.g., sepsis, heart failure, COPD, diabetes, anticoagulation, AKI, chest pain)
  • Regular case reviews and direct feedback from experienced hospitalists
  • Ongoing support for continuous learning and professional growth, including CME opportunities

Shift & Schedule
  • Night shifts (10 hours)
  • Part-time schedule (2 shifts per week)
  • Optional additional shifts as available
