A Brief Overview
The Directional Drilling Technician is responsible for the creation of new paths for the installation or repair of
underground electrical power lines and fiber optical communication lines.
What you will do
• Performs standby duties for power restoration during/after normal business hours, holidays and weekends.
• Drill paths for underground infrastructure include electrical lines, fiber optic communication lines, and conduit.
• Review and understand staking sheets depicting the boring routes for projects. Amend and redline staking sheets when there is a deviation from the original plan.
• Operate and maintain directional drilling equipment, locate equipment, and vacuum system.
• Perform proper observation techniques to ensure that directional boring does not cause any damage to public or private property. Techniques include but are not limited to monitoring equipment gauges, using sight holes, pre-job inspection, and post-job inspection.
• Utilizes vacuum system to remove debris from job sites.
• Utilizes underground locating equipment to confirm clear paths of boring before starting jobs.
Qualifications
• High School Diploma High school diploma or equivalent Required
• An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential
duties of the job
• 5-8 years Horizontal directional drilling operation Required
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, troubleshooting and organizational skills are crucial
• Time management skills are a requirement
• Ability to follow Horizontal Directional Drilling Standards and interpret drillings plans and maps is essential
• Must have knowledge of safety procedures and OSHA regulations
• Must have a thorough knowledge of first aid.
• Valid Commercial Driver's License (Class A) Upon Hire Required
• Electrical Line Installer and Repair Certification (Journeyman Lineman) Preferred
