What is a direct sales professional?

Direct Sales Professionals are individuals who sell products or services directly to consumers, typically outside of a traditional retail environment. They often work independently or as representatives of a direct sales company, using personal networks, social events, or online platforms to reach customers. Their responsibilities include demonstrating products, answering questions, processing orders, and sometimes recruiting and training new sales representatives. Success in this role relies on strong communication skills, self-motivation, and a customer-focused approach.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a direct sales professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Direct Sales Professional, you need strong interpersonal skills, persuasive communication, and a results-driven mindset, often supported by a high school diploma or bachelor's degree. Familiarity with CRM software, sales tracking tools, and product-specific certifications can enhance performance. Outstanding active listening, resilience, and relationship-building abilities help set top performers apart. These skills are crucial for building trust, meeting sales targets, and maintaining lasting customer relationships in a competitive environment.

What are some common challenges direct sales professionals face when reaching sales targets, and how can they overcome them?

Direct Sales Professionals often encounter challenges such as finding qualified leads, handling customer objections, and maintaining motivation during slow sales periods. Overcoming these hurdles typically involves developing strong relationship-building skills, staying persistent, and continuously updating product knowledge. Leveraging CRM tools, attending regular team meetings, and seeking feedback from peers and managers can also help improve performance. Many organizations offer ongoing training and mentorship programs to support sales professionals in meeting and exceeding their targets.

Job description

Who we are

Neros is a defense technology company rebuilding America's drone industrial base. We design and manufacture high-performance unmanned systems that are tested in combat, iterated at startup speed, and built at massive scale. Our team culture is fast, hands-on, and obsessed with closing the gap between design and deployment.

As drones transform the character of warfare, Neros is delivering the systems the West needs to compete on the modern battlefield and deter the adversaries of democracy. We're hiring engineers, operators, and builders who want to move fast, take on extreme ownership, and get capability into the hands of warfighters in months, not years.

What you will be doing

As the Army Direct Sales, you will build and manage relationships across Army units to accelerate drone adoption on the modern battlefield. Working alongside the BD, Operations and Strategy teams, you'll carry the operational backbone of the team's efforts to field Neros platforms across the Army: managing inbound customer traffic and quotes, keeping the CRM current, and planning and executing field demonstrations and trade shows. You'll stay close to the Soldiers flying our systems, feed their insights back to engineering and BD, and map the units, commands, and program offices that shape Army's drone adoption - connecting one unit's problem to another unit's solution. As you grow, you'll step into conducting demonstrations independently and owning outbound customer engagements end to end. This role requires someone who is willing to travel, adapts to changing timelines, and thrives in a dynamic startup environment.

You should have the following

  • 1-3 years in defense business development, military operations, or a customer-facing role
  • Familiarity with Army units, culture, and organization, or the curiosity and drive to build it fast
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Experience planning and executing events, translating directly to running trade shows, demos, and field engagements.
  • Uncompromising honesty with customers and teammates, including saying "I don't know" to an end user and following up with the right answer
  • Exceptional communication skills with military and civilian stakeholders, from PV2 to General
  • Willingness to travel frequently to military bases and field locations
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance

Nice to Have

  • Prior Army service or direct experience working with Army units, programs, or operations
  • Technical fluency with unmanned systems or defense hardware; FPV flying experience or Part 107 certification
  • Existing relationships within Army units, schools, or program offices
  • Experience with CRM tools and quote/order workflows
  • Familiarity with DoD procurement basics (purchase orders, GPC buys, bailments, contract vehicles)
  • Trade show or demo experience

US Salary Range

$110,500 - $154,500 USD

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations. Highly competitive equity grants are considered part of Neros' total compensation package.

We're an equal opportunity employer. We welcome all applicants without attention to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran or disability status.
