We serve the growing insurance and risk management needs of medium and large governmental entities and provide property and casualty insurance coverages in multiple states.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Property Claims Adjuster to handle low-to mid-level commercial first-party property claims from assignment through resolution. Working under the supervision of the Claims Manager, this role will investigate claims, evaluate coverage and damages, establish appropriate reserves, and negotiate settlements within approved authority. The Property Claims Adjuster will also support the subrogation process for claims identified as having subrogation potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adjust assigned claims to completion within approved authority.

  • Review, analyze, and interpret commercial package insurance policies to determine coverage applicable to each claim.

  • Investigate and evaluate claims using available evidence to determine coverage, damages, responsible parties, subrogation potential, and other relevant issues.

  • Assign and oversee independent adjusters, appraisers, vendors, and technical experts for on-site investigations and damage assessments as needed.

  • Obtain, review, and evaluate repair estimates and other documentation related to the claim.

  • Establish and maintain appropriate loss reserves based on the probable financial impact of each claim.

  • Identify claims with subrogation potential and support the applicable subrogation process.

  • Determine when expert assistance is appropriate and obtain approval before engaging experts.

  • Attend mediations for appropriate claim files.

  • Maintain accurate claim files, documentation, activity notes, and diaries in accordance with company policies and procedures.

  • Prepare clear and timely correspondence for insureds, claimants, witnesses, and other stakeholders.

  • Obtain approval before issuing coverage denials.

  • Prepare loss reports for reinsurers and insurers in accordance with contractual requirements.

  • Remain current on insurance industry developments, claims practices, and relevant trends.

  • Provide guidance and support to less experienced adjusters.

  • Identify opportunities to improve business practices and perform work in a thorough, cost-effective, and timely manner.

  • Comply with all corporate policies, procedures, business controls, and safety requirements.

  • Promptly report any breakdowns in business controls to management.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

  • 3 - 5 years of relevant and progressively responsible experience in insurance claims.

  • Current state adjuster's license.

  • Experience in handling commercial property or first-party claims preferred.

  • Experience interpreting commercial package policies preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and investigative abilities.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, deadlines, and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and escalating issues appropriately.

  • Professional presence when interacting with insureds, claimants, vendors, experts, attorneys, and business partners.

  • Ability to follow established work plans, timelines, procedures, and performance expectations.
