Job description

Position Overview

The Java Developer supports the development, maintenance, and enhancement of Java-based components within a Cognos-driven application environment. This role focuses on ensuring system reliability, resolving defects, and implementing incremental improvements while supporting ongoing operations and future cloud migration efforts. The developer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams in an Agile setting to deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain Java-based application components.

  • Perform bug fixes, code corrections, and minor feature enhancements to support mission needs.

  • Support system patching, application maintenance, and routine operational updates.

  • Collaborate with functional analysts to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

  • Troubleshoot application issues, conduct root cause analysis, and deliver timely resolutions.

  • Assist with cloud migration preparation, including environment setup, configuration, installation, and testing.

  • Participate in code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards, security practices, and best practices.

  • Support APIs, integration points, and data exchange processes.

  • Provide input during release planning, deployment activities, and post-deployment stabilization.

  • Contribute to Agile Scrum ceremonies such as sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Experience developing and maintaining Java-based applications.

  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.

  • Experience with debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.

  • Familiarity with application integration, APIs, and data exchange mechanisms.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, Agile environment.

  • U.S. Citizenship required.

  • Active Public Trust (IT2) clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Cognos or similar reporting platforms.

  • Exposure to cloud migration or cloud-based environments (e.g., AWS, Azure).

  • Familiarity with DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Java-related or Agile certifications preferred but not required.
