Digitization information

What is digitization?

Digitization is the process of converting information from a physical format, such as paper documents, photographs, or analog recordings, into a digital format that can be stored, processed, and accessed electronically. This process often involves scanning, photographing, or using specialized equipment to create digital files. Digitization enables easier sharing, preservation, and retrieval of information, making it widely used in industries like libraries, archives, healthcare, and business. It also helps protect original materials from wear and tear by reducing the need for direct handling.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a digitization specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Digitization Specialist, you need expertise in document handling, digital archiving, and data management, often supported by a relevant degree or experience in library science or information technology. Familiarity with scanning equipment, digital asset management systems (DAMS), and metadata standards such as Dublin Core is typically required. Attention to detail, organizational skills, and effective communication help ensure accuracy and smooth project workflows. These skills are vital for preserving information integrity, ensuring accessibility, and supporting the successful transition from physical to digital formats.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in digitization roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals working in digitization often encounter challenges such as handling fragile or outdated source materials, ensuring data accuracy during conversion, and managing large volumes of documents efficiently. Addressing these issues typically involves adopting best practices for document handling, leveraging advanced scanning and OCR technologies, and implementing thorough quality control processes. Collaboration with IT teams and archivists is also essential to ensure that digital assets are well-organized, securely stored, and easily accessible for future use.

What is the difference between Digitization vs Data Entry Specialist?

Work EnvironmentOften involves working with scanning equipment, software, and digital platformsOffice setting, using computers and data management software

While both roles involve working with digital data, digitization focuses on converting physical or analog data into digital formats, often involving technical tools and processes. Data entry specialists primarily focus on accurately inputting data into systems. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or job role.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work in a place full of excitement, diversity, and entertainment? Are you enthusiastic about being a team player in one of the most fascinating industries in the world? At MGM Resorts, we seek individuals like YOU to create unique and show-stopping experiences for our guests.
THE JOB:
The Manager of Digital Product Analytics (Insights & Implementation) is a subject matter expert responsible for driving actionable insights and ensuring reliable measurement across MGM Resorts' digital products, including web, mobile app, booking and eCommerce flows, digital check-in, digital key, loyalty experiences, and other customer-facing journeys. This role operates at the intersection of analytics and implementation partnering with Product, UX, Engineering, and Analytics leaders to define measurement needs, ensure accurate instrumentation, and translate customer behavior into clear recommendations that improve adoption, conversion, and digital revenue.
THE DAY-TO-DAY:
  • Own digital product reporting and insight delivery for assigned web/app experiences, translating customer behavior, funnel performance, and engagement patterns into clear, actionable recommendations through strong storytelling and stakeholder communication.
  • Define measurement strategy and requirements for product initiatives, partnering with Product, UX, Engineering, and stakeholders to establish KPIs, success criteria, and measurement approaches that support both day-to-day performance monitoring and deeper customer journey analysis.
  • Partner on instrumentation to ensure accurate, scalable data collection, contributing to (and in some cases directly owning) tracking specifications, event schemas, data layer requirements, and tagging approaches across web and app experiences.
  • Support and/or lead tagging implementation and governance activities using tag management systems (e.g., Adobe Launch or similar), including coordinating releases, maintaining standards and documentation, and ensuring consistency across platforms and experiences.
  • Drive experimentation measurement and learning loops, including defining test success metrics, ensuring proper tracking for A/B and multivariate tests, analyzing results with statistical rigor, and communicating insights and next steps to product partners.
  • Execute proactive data quality monitoring, QA, and troubleshooting, including validation/auditing of analytics implementations, investigation of anomalies, and partnership with engineering and analytics stakeholders to remediate tracking gaps or regressions.
  • Perform hands-on analysis using digital analytics tools and raw data, leveraging SQL/Python and BI tools to build dashboards, answer business questions, quantify opportunity size and financial impact, and enable stakeholders with trusted self-serve insights where possible.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
  • The ideal candidate has more than three years in digital/product analytics, measurement, or related roles delivering business impact through insights and analytics.
  • They have hands-on experience with SQL and/or Python and working with modern data environments (e.g., Databricks or similar).
  • They have experience with digital analytics platforms and/or tag management tools (e.g., Adobe Analytics, Adobe Launch, Google Tag Manager, or equivalent).
  • They are proficient in analyzing web/app behavior (funnels, conversion, engagement, journeys) and communicating recommendations to stakeholders.
  • They have working knowledge of digital measurement implementation concepts (event taxonomy, data layers, QA/validation, release considerations).
  • They bring strong analytical skills with ability to quantify financial impact and prioritize opportunities.

THE PERKS & BENEFITS:
  • Wellness incentive programs to help you stay healthy physically and mentally
  • Access to company hotel, food and beverage, retail, and entertainment discounts as well as discounts with company partners on things like travel, electronics, online shopping, and more
  • Free meals in our employee dining room
  • Free parking on and off shift
  • Health & Income Protection benefits (for eligible employees)
  • Professional and personal development through programs and networking opportunities as well as volunteer opportunities in the community
