Job description

Orthodontic Assistant

Location: Royersford, PA
Job Type: Full-Time
Pay: $19.00–$35.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications

Join Altera Orthodontics:
Altera Orthodontics is a growing, state-of-the-art, fully digital orthodontic practice seeking a dependable and patient-focused Orthodontic Assistant.
We welcome both experienced orthodontic assistants and motivated entry-level candidates who are reliable, professional, eager to learn, and interested in building a long-term career in orthodontics.
Our office culture is centered on kindness, teamwork, accountability, reliability, and excellent patient care.

Position Overview:
The Orthodontic Assistant will support the doctor during clinical procedures, help maintain efficient patient flow, and create a positive experience for patients and families.
Experienced candidates should be comfortable performing core orthodontic-assisting duties independently. Entry-level candidates will receive hands-on training and will be expected to steadily develop their clinical skills.
Clinical assisting is the primary responsibility. The position may also occasionally include helping with patient photos, videos, community events, or practice-promotional activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide chairside assistance during orthodontic procedures.
  • Prepare treatment areas, instruments, materials, and supplies.
  • Take orthodontic photographs and digital X-rays when trained and authorized.
  • Perform iTero digital scans.
  • Complete digital charting and clinical documentation.
  • Assist with braces, aligners, appliances, bonding, debonding, and retainers according to training and experience.
  • Follow sterilization, infection-control, and safety protocols.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked clinical areas.
  • Support smooth patient seating, treatment, and dismissal.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, parents, the doctor, and team members.
  • Follow established clinical protocols and office policies.
  • Occasionally assist with patient engagement, community events, or marketing initiatives.

Qualifications:
  • Dependable and consistent attendance.
  • Positive and professional attitude.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good time-management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and follow clinical protocols.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to accept feedback and develop new skills.
  • Commitment to excellent patient care.

Orthodontic or dental assisting experience is preferred but not required. We are willing to train the right entry-level candidate.
Current CPR and X-ray certifications are preferred. Candidates without the necessary certifications must be willing and able to obtain them within the timeframe established by the practice.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous orthodontic or dental assisting experience.
  • Experience taking digital records and orthodontic photographs.
  • Experience using an iTero scanner.
  • Experience with digital charting.
  • Familiarity with braces, aligners, appliances, bonding, debonding, and retainers.
  • Experience working in a fully digital dental or orthodontic practice.

Compensation:
  • $19.00–$35.00 per hour.
  • Pay is based on orthodontic or dental experience, certifications, clinical ability, reliability, and overall fit.

Entry-level candidates will generally begin toward the lower portion of the range. More experienced candidates with advanced orthodontic skills and the ability to work independently may qualify for the higher portion of the range.

Benefits:
  • Health insurance.
  • Paid time off.
  • 401(k) with employer matching.
  • Employee discount on services.
  • Professional training and development.
  • Opportunities for growth within the practice.

Benefits are subject to applicable eligibility requirements and practice policies.

Why Join Altera Orthodontics?
  • Supportive doctor and collaborative team.
  • Modern, fully digital orthodontic practice.
  • Hands-on training for the right candidate.
  • Positive and patient-centered work environment.
  • Opportunity for long-term employment and professional growth.
