We are seeking an experienced Senior Reporter, Breaking News to join our US newsroom and play a leading role in delivering compelling, fast-moving journalism to our growing US audience.

About The Role

As a Senior Reporter, Breaking News you will be at the forefront of breaking news, developing original story ideas, uncovering exclusives, and producing high-impact journalism under tight deadlines.

  • Pitch, report, write, produce, and curate compelling news content for a US audience.
  • Cover breaking news quickly and accurately while maintaining the distinctive Daily Mail editorial voice.
  • Develop and deliver exclusive stories, identifying compelling angles and information that other outlets may miss.
  • Research stories thoroughly using a wide range of news-gathering tools, sources, databases, and social platforms.
  • Manage multiple assignments and priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven newsroom.
  • Coordinate with reporters, editors, producers, photographers, and colleagues across the global newsroom to ensure stories are delivered efficiently.
  • Operate the content management system to publish and update stories.
  • Conduct picture research and select strong, relevant imagery to support published content.
  • Monitor audience analytics and use performance data to refine story selection, headlines, presentation, and editorial strategy.
  • Contribute to audience growth, including strategies designed to attract new subscribers and engage existing readers.
  • Work collaboratively across a 24-hour newsroom and provide coverage across a variety of shifts as required.

About You

We are looking for a journalist who combines strong reporting instincts with speed, creativity, curiosity, and excellent editorial judgment.

  • At least three years of professional journalism experience, preferably in digital news.
  • A strong understanding of the Daily Mail brand, editorial voice, and global audience.
  • Proven ability to break and develop news stories under intense deadline pressure.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, research, and verbal communication skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to generate original story ideas and identify compelling news angles.
  • Strong research skills and an instinct for finding interesting, newsworthy information.
  • Experience using digital and multiplatform news-gathering tools and resources.
  • Familiarity with content management systems and digital publishing workflows.
  • Ability to use audience analytics to understand performance and inform editorial decisions.
