Job description

Director, Communications and Government Affairs Product & Pipeline

Cancer remains one of the world's greatest health challenges and many patients still face uncertain futures with limited treatment options. At GSK, we are accelerating our progress through a focused portfolio and pipeline of differentiated oncology medicines, using precision science to bring the right treatment to the right patient and improve how people live with cancer.

Communications and Government Affairs (CGA) plays a critical role in helping build confidence in our science, shaping policy and stakeholder understanding, supporting launches, and ensuring patient needs remain at the centre of our work.

As Director, CGA Product and Pipeline, you will lead integrated communications, policy and stakeholder engagement strategies for a defined set of oncology assets and indications. You will serve as the CGA lead on core asset teams and act as a strategic business partner to senior leaders. Working in a dynamic environment, you will help shape the external environment for successful development, approval, launch and adoption of innovative medicines, balancing long-term strategy with agile execution around data, regulatory and business milestones.

Key Responsibilities:

This role is part of the Global Oncology Communications & Government Affairs team and reports to the Head of Oncology Communications & Government Affairs. It is accountable for:

  • Developing and executing integrated Communications & Government Affairs (CGA) strategies for assigned oncology medicines and indications across development, launch and lifecycle management - linking to the overall oncology strategy and company equity story and building overall trust and reputation for GSK.

  • Serving as CGA lead on cross-functional asset leadership teams, ensuring communications, policy and engagement strategies are fully integrated into overall asset plans.

  • Acting as CGA business partner to Medicine Commercialisation Leaders, Medicine Development Leaders, Global Medical Leaders, and other senior stakeholders and matrix partners leading assigned assets.

  • Developing and executing launch communications, policy and advocacy plans to support successful launch readiness and commercial ambitions at the global level, and in close partnership through a global-to-local model to enable success in priority regions and markets.

  • Building compelling asset and disease area narratives that communicate the value of GSK's science, clinical data and innovation to external audiences and enhance engagement among internal teams.

  • Partnering with Commercial, Medical Affairs, Value & Access, Pricing and regional/local teams to identify policy opportunities and challenges-and strategies to address these (globally, and with strategy pull-through to target markets)-relevant to assigned assets and disease areas.

  • Preparing senior leaders and key spokespeople (talking points, Q&A documents, media briefings, stakeholder materials and presentations) to communicate GSK's oncology strategy and product and pipeline stories to external audiences.

  • Creating and developing high-quality communications content based on audience and channel insights, including press materials, messaging platforms, communications plans, data communications, leader briefings, videos, patient-focused campaigns and storytelling, digital assets and stakeholder engagement materials.

  • Partnering closely with CGA partners (for example, Corporate Media, Digital Communications, Internal Communications, Regional/Local teams) to ensure a coordinated and impactful approach across channels, audiences and priority markets.

  • Managing communications and public affairs agencies supporting assigned assets and disease areas.

  • Helping manage news flow internally and externally to maintain consistency, maximise impact and reduce unnecessary complexity and noise.

  • Delivering in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, adapting strategies and communications approaches in response to scientific, regulatory, competitive and policy developments.

  • Leading issues anticipation, preparedness and reputation management activities for assigned assets, ensuring risks are proactively identified and effectively managed.

Why You?

We are looking for an experienced communications and government affairs professional with deep healthcare experience and a strong understanding of the oncology landscape.

Attributes

  • Strategic communications and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex science into compelling narratives for diverse audiences.

  • Understanding of healthcare policy, stakeholder engagement and market-shaping strategies.

  • Excellent relationship-building, influencing and stakeholder management skills.

  • Strong business acumen and ability to operate effectively in a highly matrixed, global organisation.

  • Sound judgement and discretion when managing sensitive issues and high-profile situations.

  • Resilient and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and competing demands.

  • Strong commitment to patient-centred thinking and the role of external engagement in improving outcomes for people living with cancer.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Significant experience (10+ years) in Communications, Government Affairs, Public Affairs or Corporate Affairs within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or healthcare sector.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing integrated communications and stakeholder engagement strategies for medicines or healthcare-related initiatives.

  • Experience supporting product development, regulatory milestones, data communications, congress communications, launch readiness and/or product launches.

  • Experience partnering with senior leaders and providing strategic counsel in complex business environments.

  • Experience managing agencies and leading cross-functional initiatives across multiple markets and geographies.

  • Understanding of regulatory, compliance and governance requirements relating to pharmaceutical communications and external engagement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Oncology experience and/or strong understanding of the oncology treatment and stakeholder landscape.
