Job description

The Web and Digital Strategy Manager is a full-time position that manages web and other digital needs for initiatives of the Internal Communications unit, housed inside University Communications and Marketing. This position works with all communications leaders and other colleagues across the unit to provide direct web support as well as strategic guidance for the Human Resources (HR), Information Technology (IT) and Indiana University (IU) Global web portfolios.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Leads strategic planning, governance, and ongoing management for the Internal Communications web portfolio, establishing long-term digital roadmaps aligned with university priorities.
  • Supervises process for and completes build-out and/or edits as needed for updated web needs for University Administration (UA) units served by the Internal Communications unit.
  • Maintains workflow consistent with broader UA web team to ensure seamless process and service.
  • Manages web project intake, prioritization, timelines, risks, and resource allocation.
  • Oversees and provides guidance on digital best practices and university brand guidelines.
  • Serves as the primary web strategy consultant for senior leaders and stakeholders across IU Global, HR, and University Information Technology Services (UITS).
  • Builds collaborative relationships with technical teams, communications staff, and campus partners.
  • Collaborates to provide web analysis expertise to other functional teams inside Internal Communications, including but not limited to leadership, content, audience strategy and IU Today teams.
  • Contributes additional support for other UA initiatives and projects.
  • Explores AI communication tools and technologies to enhance digital strategies.
  • Ensures compliance with university web standards, accessibility requirements (WCAG), and digital governance policies.
  • Uses Google Analytics, SiteImprove, and other reporting tools to evaluate website performance and recommend improvements.
General Responsibilities
  • Independently creates basic and complex communications for print and e-distribution on behalf of department or large multi-faceted department and in support of departmental goals and objectives; communications may be interdepartmental; staff, faculty, or student-focused; or external.
  • Responds to inquiries and requests and explains policies, procedures, and context of communications.
  • Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders and creates communications coverage for relevant initiatives, events, and programs.
  • Prepares communications timelines and shares progress of communications toward relevant deadlines with manager, team members, and other relevant constituents.
  • Regularly monitors relevant social media and news sites; researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty.
  • Utilizes various communications software programs and delivers communications in multiple formats to a variety of audiences.
  • Monitors industry trends and best practices and makes process and operational recommendations to manager.
  • May provide guidance to lower-level Communications Generalists.

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, public relations, or related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment.
