Job description

Responsibilities

The Electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME) serves as the technical authority for the electrical infrastructure within our hyperscale data center environments. This role is operations focused but also bridges design, construction, and commissioning, ensuring mission-critical power systems are reliable, scalable, and compliant with internal and external standards.
The eSME will act as both a hands-on field expert and strategic advisor, supporting day-to-day operations while influencing long-term electrical design, maintenance strategies, and system improvements across the platform.

Technical Ownership & Operations

  • Serve as the onsite technical authority for electrical infrastructure systems, with deep engagement in real-time operations and field conditions
  • Oversee and support LV/MV power distribution, UPS, generators, switchgear, protection & control systems
  • Ensure maximum uptime, resiliency, and safe operation of mission-critical electrical systems
  • Lead or support hands-on troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and maintenance activities

Procedures, Safety & Reliability

  • Develop, review, and approve SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs for electrical systems
  • Contribute to and enforce site electrical safety programs, including risk mitigation and compliance
  • Support root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective/preventative actions
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, OSHA, and internal standards

Design, Integration & Commissioning

  • Provide technical oversight from basis of design (BOD) through commissioning and operations
  • Review electrical designs, studies, and submittals (load flow, short circuit, arcflash)
  • Support QA/QC of construction and retrofit projects
  • Oversee system modifications and upgrades, ensuring adherence to change management processes
  • Participate in commissioning, testing, and factory witness activities

Continuous Improvement & Strategy

  • Provide feedback on global electrical design standards and maintenance strategies
  • Drive improvements in reliability, scalability, and energy efficiency
  • Capture lessons learned and standardize best practices across sites
  • Support long-term planning for capacity, upgrades, and system evolution
  • Collaborate with global teams to standardize controls strategies and architectures across the fleet

Program & Stakeholder Leadership

  • Collaborate across operations, development, engineering, construction, and global teams
  • Act as a key interface with vendors, OEMs, contractors, and service providers
  • Manage vendor performance for electrical maintenance and project execution
  • Provide training and mentorship to engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of electrical industry experience (data center, mission-critical, utility, or industrial environments)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or trade certification with relevant experience
  • Strong practical and theoretical knowledge of:
    • Power distribution systems (LV/MV)
    • UPS and battery systems
    • Electrical protection and control systems
    • Maintenance, troubleshooting, and testing practices
  • Experience with procedure-based operations in critical environments
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and specifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in hyperscale or colocation data center environments
  • NETA, NICET, or equivalent electrical testing certifications
  • Experience with high-voltage systems (up to 345kV)
  • Background in commissioning, field service engineering, or OEM support
  • Experience with instrumentation & controls, automation, and protection systems
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
