Description

The RF Engineer IV is a fully proficient engineer responsible for designing, analyzing, and testing RF and microwave systems used in Diamond's rotary joints, slip rings, and electromechanical assemblies. This role independently executes complex RF engineering tasks, leads moderate to high complexity analysis efforts, and ensures RF designs meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ability to evaluate and effect antenna performance
  • Ability to guide the development of new antennas
  • Design and analyze RF circuits, components, and system architectures for Diamond products.
  • Perform RF measurements, including S-parameters, insertion loss, isolation, phase matching, and VSWR.
  • Develop RF models and perform simulations using HFSS, CST, ADS, or similar tools.
  • Support testing and qualification of RF assemblies and prototypes.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers on electromechanical designs affecting RF paths.
  • Troubleshoot RF performance issues during production or qualification.
  • Generate engineering documentation: RF test reports, design notes, ECOs, configuration-controlled documentation.
  • Mentor junior RF engineers and technicians.
  •  Leads complex RF design projects including new architectures and advanced modeling.
  • Performs deep-dive investigations into RF failures and system-level issues.
  • Mentor multiple engineers and influences RF standards/methodologies.
  • Experience with RF, microwave, and millimeter-wave system design, testing, or integration.
  • Familiarity with RF rotary joints, slip rings, FORJ systems, and supporting electromechanical architectures.
  • Ability to design or analyze RF signal paths, impedance matching, insertion loss, VSWR, and isolation characteristics.
  • Understanding of mechanical-RF interactions, including rotating interfaces, thermal constraints, and packaging.
  • Experience with VNA/Spectrum Analyzer measurements, S-parameters, time-domain analysis, and RF troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, ITAR/CUI requirements, and configuration-controlled engineering processes.
  • Ability to collaborate with mechanical, manufacturing, and quality teams during prototype builds and root-cause investigations.
  • Comfort generating documentation: RF test reports, engineering changes, qualification test procedures, and BOM structures.
  • Familiarity with simulation tools such as HFSS, CST, ADS, or equivalent RF modeling environments.
  • Commitment to disciplined engineering methodology and continuous improvement across Diamond's product lines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with RF/Microwave concentration (Master's preferred).
  • 4-7 years of RF engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with RF test equipment (VNA, Spectrum Analyzer, Signal Generator, Power Meter).
  • Experience with simulation tools such as HFSS, CST, ADS, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of electromagnetic principles, transmission lines, and RF packaging.
