Job description

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is an independent office whose mission is to promote excellence, integrity, and accountability throughout the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In our dynamic environment, the OIG conducts investigations, audits, evaluations, and inspections to enhance program effectiveness and efficiency and to detect and prevent waste, fraud, and mismanagement in DHS programs and operations.Qualifications:You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this vacancy announcement.If you are a current federal employee, you must meet all time-in-grade and time-after competitive appointment qualifications by the closing date of this vacancy announcement. To make an accurate determination, you will need to include on your resume your federal position title, pay plan, occupational series, grade level, agency, dates for which you held the grade level (stated as MM/YYYY to MM/YYYY, OR MM/YYYY to PRESENT), and total hours worked per week. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
You must meet the "Specialized Experience" to qualify for the Supervisory Auditor Performance position, as described below:
Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal Service.
Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
Specialized experience at this level includes:
1) Analyzing and evaluating the effectiveness of various operations, programs, and functions of an organization.
2) Serving as a technical advisor responsible for development, formulation or execution of special programs and projects related to audit policies and practices.
3) Leading and/or managing people
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The qualification requirements listed above must be met by the closing date 06/11/2026of this announcement.

  1. Degree: auditing; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration or accounting. Individuals with degrees in Information Technology, Emergency Management, Homeland Security Studies, and Criminal Justice or related degrees are strongly encouraged to apply.

Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
    1. A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; or
    2. Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours
Must submit a copy of your college transcript (unofficial is acceptable) or a list of coursework with hours completed proof of Basic Requirement. Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet Federal qualification requirements if you can show that your foreign education is comparable to education received in accredited educational institutions in the United States. For example, specific courses accepted for college-level credit by an accredited U.S. college or university, or foreign education evaluated by an organization recognized for accreditation by the Department of Education as education equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. college or university.
