Job description

Professional Engineer (PE) – FAA Logistics Center Support (FAALC)

The Professional Engineer (PE) will lead engineering support for advanced surveillance, communications, and infrastructure systems critical to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Logistics Center (FAALC) and its federal partners, including the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the Department of Defense (DoD). The role involves hands‑on engineering, strategic assessments, detailed reporting, and high‑level collaboration with government and contractor stakeholders.

Position Overview

Energy to serve the nation as a firm engineering leader is required. This position offers opportunity to influence federal logistical operations, manage cross‑functional teams, maintain complex systems, and provide expert analysis and documentation.

Location(s)
  • Onsite at CBP facilities in Texas, Arizona, California, and Oklahoma
  • Occasional travel within the continental United States and U.S. Territories
  • Remote/telework may be permitted with prior approval
Height and Hazard Pay
  • Must be capable of working at heights of 80 feet or above and qualify for hazard pay as required.

About the Position

The PE will oversee assessment, enhancement, and maintenance of surveillance and communications systems to ensure national security and critical airspace operations remain safe and resilient. Responsibilities include managing teams, fostering collaboration, and applying technical excellence to support continuous improvement and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct assessments and inspections of CBP and FAA systems and produce detailed reports with recommendations.
  • Maintain and update asset end‑of‑life databases with mitigation recommendations.
  • Lead in‑house repair candidate monitoring, documentation, test planning, and milestone scheduling.
  • Research demand/failure data for cost‑saving initiatives and in‑house repair solutions.
  • Evaluate feasibility of FAA performing repairs, pre‑vendor testing, and maintenance.
  • Develop Engineering Change Proposals (ECP) and Engineering Change Requests (ECR).
  • Perform reverse engineering and create test procedures for government assets.
  • Research opportunities for parts commonality and reliability improvements.
  • Provide metrics on failure tracking, vendor repair tracking, and cost savings.
  • Offer feedback on environmental testing and provide recommendations.
  • Perform data entry, data mining, and analysis on designated systems.
  • Track depot‑level repair of assets.
  • Travel to remote sites as required.
Requirements for Maintenance, Repairs, and Reporting Support
  • Traveled up to 75% of the time for maintenance, repairs, and reporting tasks.
  • Capable of working at heights of 80 feet or above, including eligibility for hazardous duty compensation.
  • Responsible for serviceability testing, preventive and corrective maintenance, and limited repairs on government assets.
  • Accurately document maintenance activities in automated tracking systems such as ILS‑S and LCSS.
  • Provide troubleshooting, repair, installation, and management of government assets with thorough documentation.
  • Support specialized systems (booms, hydraulic systems) and Service Life Extension Program (SLEP) activities, including hardware and software upgrades.
  • Offer help line support during normal business hours and generate reports for service requests and work orders.
  • Develop work instructions, test procedures, and recommend hardware and software improvements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil, electrical, mechanical, industrial, or related engineering.
  • Formal training and demonstrated competency in engineering support for complex systems.
  • Experience with assessments, inspections, and technical reporting.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
  • U.S. citizenship required; able to obtain and maintain security clearances and pass background investigations (FAA and DHS/CBP).
  • Ability to work at heights of 80 feet or above and in varied environmental conditions.
  • Proficiency with data analysis and reporting tools.
Preferred
  • Experience supporting federal government or defense contracts.

Work Schedule

  • Office/Administrative settings: Program management, technical writing, and IT/software engineering tasks in office environments or remotely.
  • Remote/Telework: Permitted with prior approval from the contracting officer and contract representative.
Safety and Environmental Conditions
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required at all times onsite (e.g., hard hats, steel‑toed shoes, gloves, goggles).
  • Hazardous duty: eligibility for hazard pay for tasks involving heights, noise, hazardous materials.
  • Hearing conservation: annual hearing tests and training for exposure to high noise levels.

Travel Requirements
