Job description

Accounting Operations Specialist
Are you tired of accounting jobs where you're one invisible cog in a giant AP queue, closing books you'll never understand for a company you'll never meet? As an Accounting Operations Specialist at BodySpec, you'll own AP, AR, and daily bookkeeping end to end for a company you can actually see working - 20+ locations, 600,000+ scans, real vendors, real customers. Your job is to make the back office boring and correct: clean books, bills paid on time, and processes tight enough that the same error never happens twice. BodySpec is the premier DEXA operator in the country, and accurate financial operations are how we scale it responsibly.
First-year Accounting Operations Specialists in Austin, TX can expect to earn up to $70,584 in total cash compensation, plus equity. This role is paid hourly and is non-exempt.
You'll Love This Job If You Have:
  • Detail Obsession: You're the person who catches the duplicate payment before it goes out, not after. A misfiled transaction or an unreconciled penny genuinely bothers you, and you don't rest until it's found. Sloppy books make you uncomfortable.
  • Relentless Follow-Through: You chase the unpaid invoice, the missing receipt, and the vendor who went quiet - without being reminded. You treat "I'll circle back" as a promise you actually keep, and collections don't slip because you don't let them.
  • Process Instinct: When something breaks, you don't just fix it - you write down how to stop it from breaking again. You'd rather spend an hour documenting a workflow than spend that hour re-solving the same problem next month.
  • Boring and Correct: You take pride in a back office that just works. You'd rather everything be quietly, reliably right than flashy, and you measure yourself by whether the books are clean and closed on time.
  • Quiet Discretion: You'll see comp data, vendor terms, and financial detail that stays between you and the people who need it. You handle sensitive information like it's yours to protect.

What Will You Do?
  • Own daily bookkeeping in Ramp: our internal tool handles the bulk of categorization automatically, but you review the feeds every day, code and categorize what's left, work the manual escalations and transactions it can't resolve, and chase the receipt and coding follow-ups that keep the books current and clean.
  • Own accounts payable end to end: pay bills on time, catch and prevent duplicate payments, and enforce expense policy so spend stays in bounds.
  • Manage vendors cleanly: set up new vendors correctly, collect W9s, and keep payment terms and vendor records accurate and current.
  • Run accounts receivable with consistent invoicing and persistent collections so revenue lands when it should.
  • Perform bank and credit card reconciliations, resolving discrepancies rather than carrying them forward.
  • Own the monthly close checklist and complete close within seven days of month-end.
  • Produce light operational reporting - AR aging summaries and exception reports - so problems surface early.
  • Support 1099 preparation and pull records for audits or reviews (execution support, not tax judgment).
  • Build and tighten SOPs as you go so recurring errors get engineered out, not repeated.

Requirements
  • 2-5 years of experience in AP, AR, or bookkeeping (flexible if you can demonstrate the skills).
  • Strong QuickBooks skills and confident, fast spreadsheet work.
  • Based in Austin, TX and able to work in-person at our offices.
  • Detail-obsessed and persistent on follow-ups - this role lives on both.
  • Ability to thrive with direct, unfiltered feedback - we'll tell you exactly what you need to improve.
Note on scope: this role is execution-focused. It does not include FP&A, forecasting, strategic finance, or CPA-level / controller responsibilities, and it does not exercise tax judgment.
Compensation
  • Base Pay: $30.00/hour (non-exempt) - approximately $62,400 annualized at 40 hours/week
  • Performance Bonus: Up to 7% of base salary annually ($4,368) - half paid in cash ($2,184), half in stock options
  • Team Revenue Bonus: $500/month when we hit monthly goals ($6,000 annually - we hit our goals 9 out of 12 months in 2024)
  • Total Cash Compensation: Up to $70,584
  • Equity: Stock options through performance bonus and additional grants based on performance
All team members regardless of position are eligible for additional stock option grants and profit sharing based on performance. We expect both cash and equity compensation to grow as the company scales.
Benefits
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off
  • Sick leave
  • Company-wide peer bonus program for recognizing excellent teamwork
  • Employee assistance program
  • Regular team events (both virtual and in-person)
  • Direct mentorship from experienced operators who've scaled companies before
