Job description

York Space Systems was founded to radically improve spacecraft affordability and reliability, transforming, and enabling next- generation space mission operations worldwide. Today, York is one of the most innovative aerospace companies, specializing in end-to-end customer solutions and the rapid production of spacecraft platforms. York's complete Space Segment Solution includes spacecraft production, payload integration, system integration & test, launch services, ground segment services, and mission operations, enabling customers to leverage York's existing technology solutions to get to orbit rapidly and responsively. We're looking to expand our team across the board.
York Space Systems is seeking a Systems Engineer - Deputy Mission Operations Lead to support mission planning, mission execution, and operational readiness across the full mission lifecycle. This is a hands-on individual contributor role in which the successful candidate will work closely with the Mission Operations lead to develop operational concepts, support systems engineering activities, and execute real-time spacecraft operations. The Deputy Mission Operations Lead serves as a key technical contributor, partnering with the Mission Operations Lead to ensure successful mission execution. The role assumes increasing ownership of mission operations activities throughout the program lifecycle. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy working across disciplines, taking ownership of complex technical problems, and seeing their work directly influence the success of spacecraft from development through on-orbit operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Partner with the Mission Operations lead in planning and executing mission operations activities throughout the program lifecycle
  • Contribute to systems engineering activities including requirements development, verification planning, integration, test, and operational readiness reviews
  • Collaborate with spacecraft, ground systems, flight software, and payload engineering teams to support operational interface development and system integration
  • Support customer meetings, technical reviews, and program milestones by presenting mission operations products, technical analysis, and program status as required
  • Own the development of assigned portions of mission operations architectures, concepts of operations (ConOps), operational plans, procedures, and supporting documentation
  • Develop and maintain operational products including spacecraft checklists, command scripts, customer training materials, and console documentation
  • Participate in mission rehearsals, simulations, and table-top exercises to validate operational concepts and ensure mission readiness
  • Develop and apply telemetry analysis, trending, modeling, and software tools to evaluate spacecraft health and mission performance
  • Support anomaly investigations through multidisciplinary systems analysis using telemetry, command history, and engineering data
  • Perform real-time spacecraft operations during launch, early orbit, commissioning, and routine on-orbit operations.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior team members and serve as the Mission Operations Lead when delegated

QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS degree in engineering, computer science, or relevant technical field, plus 2-6 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with one or more of the following: spacecraft systems engineering, satellite operations, spacecraft subsystem design, ground systems, flight software, integration and test, mission planning, or orbit dynamics
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems through multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Demonstrated ability to independently execute technical work while balancing competing priorities across multiple mission activities
  • Experience developing or executing mission procedures, operational documentation, or spacecraft testing activities
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn complex spacecraft systems, operational concepts, and new software tools
  • Willingness to work extended periods of rotating shifts, off hours and weekend/holidays
  • Clear and concise communication skills
  • Active Security Clearance - SECRET highly desired with eligibility for TS/SCI in the future
  • Desired - familiarity with JIRA, Confluence, Python or other scripting languages, and project management/collaboration tools
  • This role will be fully on-site in our Greenwood Village office.

Benefits
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance (subject to spousal surcharge).
  • Company holidays, floating holidays, and sick time.
  • Unlimited PTO.
