Job Description
About the Team: The Manufacturing Engineer will join a collaborative team of five engineers supporting assembly-focused operations at ZF's Lapeer, MI facility. This role is responsible for overseeing a couple of large assembly lines and plays a key role in the advanced development and design of products, manufacturing and equipment plans, and the investigation of complex technical issues across diverse manufacturing processes. The position provides manufacturing engineering support to all plant departments and the broader corporation as needed, ensuring processes meet customer and quality requirements. The product portfolio includes suspension components, control arm machining and assembly, ball pin machining, and ball joint assembly, offering broad exposure to high-volume, precision manufacturing environments.
What you can look forward to as a Manufacturing Engineer:
  • Conducts independent analysis of operating conditions and specifications proposed and requested by customers.
  • Determines feasibility and product cost estimates from consideration of applicable policies and engineering requirements.
  • Participates in the installation, operation and testing of equipment or products developed or modified in the field or technical center for sales and/or customer representatives.
  • Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing methods and work methods.
  • Study specifications, engineering prints, manufacturing data and confer with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures and cost.
  • Analyze and plan space requirements, workflow, and design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Manages and leads major work package in customer program or advanced development program.
  • Confer with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods and provide technical information and direction.

Your profile as a Manufacturing Engineer:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of related engineering experience within manufacturing operations (internship/co-op included).
  • Expert-level knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within Engineering; Advanced knowledge of product line(s) and engineering design principles; Extensive experience with engineering change systems; In-depth understanding of engineering techniques and principles.
  • Strong background in machining, automation, robotics, and CNC systems.
  • 2 Years Project / Launch management experience preferred.
  • Leadership skills preferred.
