What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a DevOps Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a DevOps Engineer, you need a solid understanding of software development, system administration, automation, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) principles, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), as well as relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer), is typically expected. Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills help DevOps professionals bridge gaps between development and operations teams. These skills ensure efficient software delivery, reliable infrastructure, and smooth cross-team collaboration in dynamic technical environments.

What are some common challenges DevOps Engineers face when integrating new tools into existing workflows?

DevOps Engineers often encounter challenges when integrating new tools, such as ensuring compatibility with legacy systems, maintaining continuous delivery pipelines, and managing resistance to change within the team. It requires careful planning to avoid disrupting ongoing operations and thorough testing to ensure that automation and monitoring remain reliable. Effective communication and collaboration with development, QA, and IT operations teams are crucial to smooth adoption and long-term success.

What are DevOps Engineers?

DevOps Engineers are IT professionals who collaborate with software developers, system administrators, and other IT staff to oversee code releases and deployments. They focus on automating and streamlining the software development and deployment process, using tools for continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), infrastructure as code (IaC), and monitoring. DevOps Engineers help bridge the gap between development and operations teams to improve productivity, reliability, and the speed of software delivery.

Job description

As of November 1, 2025, Sunoco LP has successfully completed its acquisition of Parkland Corporation. For more information, please visit www.sunocolp.com.
Sunoco LP is a leading energy infrastructure and fuel distribution master limited partnership operating across 32 countries and territories in North America, the Greater Caribbean, and Europe. The Partnership’s midstream operations include an extensive network of approximately 14,000 miles of pipeline and over 160 terminals. This critical infrastructure complements the Partnership’s fuel distribution operations, which distribute over 15 billion gallons annually to approximately 11,000 Sunoco and partner-branded retail locations, as well as independent dealers and commercial customers.
At Sunoco, we take great pride in what we do and wholeheartedly believe our employees drive success for our company and our customers. We are always looking for the best and brightest talent and are committed to making your job a challenging and rewarding experience.

Competitive Benefits. Meaningful Extras. Unmatched Value.

  • A place where you can take your career in the direction you want to grow and go

The Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced Salesforce Developer to gather requirements, design, implement, and document high-performance platform enhancements. The ideal candidate will build robust, scalable custom solutions, manage complex system integrations, and develop custom UI components, all while maintaining high code coverage and adhering to architectural best practices. This role requires a deep understanding of Salesforce data models and objects, with the ability to balance custom development with standard functionality to ensure maintainable, long-term solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Custom Development: Develop high-quality, scalable code using Apex (Triggers, Controllers, Batch, Async) and Lightning Web Components (LWC) to meet design specifications.
  • System Integration: Build and maintain REST/SOAP APIs to connect Salesforce with ERPs, marketing tools, or proprietary databases.
  • Release & DevOps: Manage the end-to-end deployment lifecycle, including sandbox refreshes, environment synchronization, and pre-deployment validation—using tools like GitHub and Copado
  • Quality & Governance: Lead root cause analysis, evaluate technical alternatives, and perform peer code reviews to ensure architectural standards and industry best practices are met.
  • Documentation: Maintain and create project documentation, including system architecture, business process documentation, and project plans.

Education:

  • Certifications: Salesforce Platform Developer I & II.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of dedicated experience in Apex and LWC development.
  • Strong understanding of JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and object-oriented programming
  • Expert knowledge of Salesforce DX, version control systems, and data management tools like Data Loader.

Humble. Hungry. Smart. Does this sound like you?

Do others describe you as being a down-to-earth achiever? Someone who thinks outside the box and always strives to do more than what is required. Someone who sees the bigger picture? You sound brilliant to work with!

We Want You To Shine:

We are committed to providing equal opportunities to all applicants. If you require accommodation due to a disability, you will have an opportunity to notify us when scheduling your interview.

Belonging Matters. Because You Do:

We are an equal opportunity employer and encourage applications from all qualified individuals.

Our ability to work as one team across Canada, the United States and the Caribbean is foundational to our success. We show up as our authentic selves each day and create space for one another’s unique contributions.

We respect the diverse cultures, traditions and perspectives of Indigenous Peoples and seek to achieve equitable partnerships and opportunities with Indigenous communities.

The Fine Print:

Candidates must be legally eligible to work in the country in which they applied. Regrettably, we are unable to sponsor employment visas at this time.

Please note that final candidates for this position will be required to undergo a confidential pre-employment background check, including but not limited to educational, criminal, credit, drug and alcohol, and/or fitness for duty testing.
