What exactly does a DevOps engineer do?

A DevOps engineer is responsible for automating and streamlining software development, deployment, and infrastructure management. They work with tools like CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms, and configuration management to improve system reliability, scalability, and efficiency. The role often requires knowledge of scripting, automation, and collaboration between development and operations teams.

How do DevOps Engineers typically collaborate with development and operations teams on a daily basis?

DevOps Engineers act as a bridge between development and operations teams by automating workflows, facilitating communication, and ensuring smooth software deployments. On a daily basis, they work closely with developers to integrate code changes, manage CI/CD pipelines, and troubleshoot build or deployment issues. They also collaborate with IT operations to monitor system performance, address infrastructure concerns, and implement security best practices. This collaborative approach helps ensure rapid delivery of reliable software while minimizing downtime.

Is DevOps dead due to AI?

DevOps engineers focus on automating software development and deployment processes, and AI tools are increasingly used to enhance automation, monitoring, and decision-making. While AI changes some workflows, it complements DevOps practices rather than replacing the role entirely, and skills in scripting, cloud platforms, and CI/CD remain essential. The role continues to evolve with technological advancements, emphasizing adaptability and continuous learning.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a DevOps Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a DevOps Engineer, you need a solid understanding of software development, IT operations, automation, and CI/CD practices, often supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with tools such as Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS/Azure, and configuration management systems like Ansible or Chef is highly valued, along with relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer). Strong problem-solving abilities, collaboration, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for bridging development and operations teams. These skills and qualities are important for ensuring efficient software delivery, system reliability, and seamless collaboration across the software development lifecycle.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior-level DevOps engineers with extensive experience, specialized skills in automation, cloud platforms, and infrastructure management can earn $500,000 or more annually, especially in high-cost-of-living areas or within large organizations. Achieving this level typically requires advanced certifications, leadership roles, and a strong track record of managing complex systems at scale.

Is DevOps still in demand in 2026?

DevOps engineers continue to be in high demand due to the ongoing need for automation, continuous integration, and cloud infrastructure management. Skills in tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure remain valuable for organizations seeking efficient software delivery. The role is expected to grow as companies prioritize agile development and scalable systems.

What Is a DevOps Engineer?

Job description

About the job:

Contribute to developing cutting-edge AI systems, while enjoying the flexibility of remote work and setting your own schedule.

We are looking for existing cybersecurity professionals to help advance AI development. Cybersecurity platforms are increasingly powered by AI โ€” but these systems still need practitioners with real-world experience to validate whether the outputs actually hold up in practice. That's where you come in.

You'll work closely with state-of-the-art AI models on tasks like evaluating AI-generated security content, solving technical security problems, and providing feedback that directly shapes how these systems reason about real-world threats and defenses.

To get started, once you sign up for an account, you'll take a short assessment (this serves as our version of an interview). If you pass, you'll receive an email confirmation, and paid work will become available to you through our platform.

Advantages of contracting with us:

  • Fully remote: work from anywhere in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
  • Flexible schedule: choose which projects you take on and when you work.
  • You work on your own schedule, on your own computer, from the comfort of your own home
  • Projects are paid hourly starting at $50-100+/hr, with bonus rates available on some projects
  • Impact: help shape the future of AI technologies built for cybersecurity.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate AI-generated cybersecurity content โ€” including threat analysis, vulnerability assessments, and offensive security techniques โ€” for real-world accuracy and validity.
  • Design and solve security-focused technical problems used to train AI systems.
  • Write clear technical explanations and security-relevant code.
  • Provide feedback that directly shapes the next generation of AI security models.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in a cybersecurity role โ€” such as penetration testing, red teaming, incident response, detection engineering, DFIR, malware analysis, threat intelligence, or adjacent fields, including government or military cyber operations.
  • Some coding experience required; comfort navigating and patching a codebase is key.
  • Fluency in English (native or bilingual level) with strong writing skills.
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Cybersecurity certifications are a plus (e.g., OSCP, CRTO, GREM, GCFA, CEH, and similar).

Note: Payment is made via PayPal. We will never ask for any money from you. This job is only available to those in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. This is an independent contractor position.
