Job description

RS&H is currently seeking an experienced traffic engineer to join our team in St Charles, IL!

This position will have the ability to work a hybrid schedule of in-office and remote. The successful candidate will have a proven track record leading and performing diverse and complex work in the areas of traffic engineering and ITS. As a technical expert you will have a key role in project work, while also cultivating relationships with existing and new clients. You will work to achieve our goals of a profitable operation and a supportive and inclusive work environment.

The ideal candidate has traffic engineering expertise including:

  • ITS Planning and Design
  • Traffic Signal Design
  • Coordinated Signal Timing Development and Implementation
  • Lighting Analysis & Design
  • Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)
  • Capacity and Microsimulation Analysis
  • Safety Studies and Crash Predictive Analysis
  • Traffic Studies

 

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a leader delivering traffic engineering and ITS services for IDOT and other clients within the Great Lakes Division.
  • Actively manage traffic and ITS tasks as part of a multi-disciplinary project team including schedule, scope, and budget.
  • Prepare reports, specifications, and designs for transportation projects.
  • Administer quality management plans and perform thorough, detailed reviews of project deliverables.
  • Assist in business development responsibilities, including client discovery, proposal generation, interviews, and win-to-work activities.
  • Mentor junior engineering associates.

Qualifications:

  • ABET accredited bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • PE Licensure.
  • Minimum 7 years of engineering experience including proven technical leadership (decision-making on technical matters).
  • Experience with IDOT specifications and procedures.
  • Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD Civil3D, HCS, Synchro, Sidra, VISSIM and/or HSM procedures.
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills and can effectively interact and build strong relationships with team members, clients, and other key stakeholders.
  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification preferred.

Hiring Salary Range: ($106,960 - $171,181) — for this location. The final agreed upon compensation is commensurate with experience relative to the position and/or primary work location.
