Job description

Genesis10 is seeking a DevOps Engineer for a contract position with a financial services client located in New York, NY. This is a hybrid position and requires being onsite 3 days per week.
Summary:
We are seeking a DevOps Engineer with hands-on, production-level experience designing, securing, and operating enterprise CI/CD pipelines for modern cloud-based applications. This role requires far more than GitLab source control experience-you will own automated software delivery pipelines, implement governance and security best practices, and enable reliable deployments across multiple application stacks and cloud environments.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in GitLab CI/CD, cloud-native application deployments, container technologies, Azure, DevSecOps, and infrastructure automation, with experience supporting enterprise software delivery at scale.
Key Responsibilities:
GitLab CI/CD Engineering
  • Design, build, maintain, and troubleshoot multi-stage GitLab CI/CD pipelines using .gitlab-ci.yml
  • Configure and manage GitLab runners, artifacts, caching, CI/CD variables, deployment environments, approvals, and deployment gates.
  • Develop reusable pipeline templates, shared components, include files, and parent/child pipelines to standardize delivery across teams.
  • Implement GitLab governance, including branching strategies, merge request workflows, CODEOWNERS, protected branches/tags, merge trains, and approval rules.
  • Monitor and optimize pipeline performance, reliability, observability, and maintainability.
  • Integrate automated testing, security scanning, dependency scanning, secret detection, container scanning, and policy-based quality gates into delivery pipelines.
Application Build & Deployment
  • Build, test, package, and deploy enterprise applications across one or more of the following technology stacks:
    • .NET / C#
    • Java
    • Python
    • Node.js / JavaScript / TypeScript
  • Candidates should understand the unique CI/CD requirements of each platform, including dependency management, build optimization, testing frameworks, artifact creation, security scanning, containerization, and deployment strategies.
Cloud & Container Deployment
  • Deploy and manage containerized applications through GitLab CI/CD into Azure-based environments.
  • Build, tag, scan, and publish Docker container images using Azure Container Registry (ACR) or comparable cloud registries.
  • Configure deployment workflows across Development, Test, UAT, and Production environments with approvals, promotions, rollback strategies, and health validation.
  • Manage Docker images, networking, runtime configuration, logging, monitoring, and release processes.
  • Integrate Infrastructure-as-Code solutions such as Terraform, Bicep, ARM Templates, or CloudFormation into CI/CD pipelines.
Azure & AWS Cloud Technologies
  • Support cloud-native deployments using foundational Azure and AWS services.
  • Azure
  • Azure Container Registry (ACR)
  • Azure Key Vault
  • Microsoft Entra ID
  • Azure RBAC
  • Azure Storage
  • Azure Monitor
  • Virtual Networks
  • Resource Groups
  • Service Principals and Managed Identities
AWS
  • EC2
  • IAM
  • VPC
  • S3
  • CloudWatch
  • ECR
  • ECS
  • Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) / Golden Images
Secrets Management & Identity
  • Integrate Azure Key Vault into CI/CD workflows for secure management of secrets, certificates, API keys, and connection strings.
  • Implement secure credential management using masked GitLab variables, environment isolation, least-privilege access, and credential rotation.
  • Configure GitLab authentication to Azure using Service Principals, Microsoft Entra ID, Azure RBAC, and secure identity practices.
  • Experience with Workload Identity Federation/OpenID Connect (OIDC) is a plus.
AI-Assisted Engineering
  • Utilize AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code or comparable solutions to improve development, testing, documentation, debugging, and code quality.
  • Ensure AI tools are used responsibly within enterprise governance standards while maintaining human oversight, secure coding practices, and protection of proprietary code and sensitive information.
DevSecOps & Enterprise Governance
  • Support enterprise release governance, auditability, access controls, and separation-of-duties requirements.
  • Collaborate with software engineering, cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, and security teams to establish scalable CI/CD standards and improve developer productivity.
  • Champion DevSecOps best practices across the software development lifecycle.

Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience designing and supporting enterprise CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD in production environments.
  • Experience creating reusable GitLab pipeline templates and deployment automation.
  • Experience deploying containerized applications using Docker and Azure container services.
  • Strong knowledge of Azure cloud services, identity, networking, monitoring, and security.
  • Working knowledge of AWS cloud services and container deployment concepts.
  • Experience integrating Infrastructure-as-Code into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Solid understanding of DevSecOps principles, automated testing, and application security.
  • Experience implementing secure secrets management and identity integration.
  • Strong troubleshooting, automation, and scripting skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting enterprise financial services or other highly regulated environments.
  • Experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Kubernetes, or other container orchestration platforms.
  • Experience with Terraform, Bicep, ARM Templates, or CloudFormation.
  • Familiarity with OpenID Connect (OIDC) and Workload Identity Federation.
  • Experience using AI-assisted developer tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar enterprise AI coding platforms.
