Job description

About the Engineering Organization
The Engineering Team at Loop is a balance of agility, consistency, and performance. These are the pillars that allow the team to constantly and consistently deliver value that matters to customers. That customer intimacy is what allows our engineering teams to be the best in our space, and bring the best ideas to the market.

About the Role
We're hiring a DevOps Engineering Manager who can lead a top-tier team of five: someone who stays deeply technical and hands-on, owns infrastructure and pipeline delivery, and brings a clear, data-backed point-of-view to how DevOps @ Loop evolves.
This role exists to make everyone else's work possible, from product and platform engineering to our data team, merchant support, and third-party vendors.  You're not just supporting our product; you're setting the ceiling on how fast, reliably, and confidently we can deliver value to our customers.
You'll lead the team that owns product infrastructure, our pipeline delivery, and internal tools. Our immediate focus is progressive delivery: enabling engineers to ship, observe, recover, and roll back their own code independently. We're maturing our DevOps platform alongside the company's growth, including multi-region architectures and building an internal platform where autonomous AI agents can safely build features and review code.
You'll be responsible for building a roadmap that turns our growth into concrete milestones, and then leading the team that will get us there. At least 50% of your time stays hands-on keyboard: writing Terraform, tuning our Kubernetes clusters, and debugging production incidents.
Our Blended Work Environment
At Loop, we're intentional about the way we work so that we can do our best work. We call this our Blended Working Environment. We work from our HQ in Columbus, OH, or one of our Hub or Secluded locations, and are distributed throughout the United States, select Canadian provinces, the United Kingdom, and Australia. For this position, we're looking for someone to join us in Columbus, OH or fully remote.
Our Tech Stack
AWS (AKS, Redis, Aurora, DynamoDB, S3), Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, GitLab, Airflow, Temporal, PHP/Laravel, Linux, Datadog, Snowflake, dbt

What You'll Do:
  • Drive self-service and automation at Loop by designing golden-path workflows (using Terraform and Kubernetes/Docker) so product teams can provision infrastructure, integrate monitoring (via Datadog), and release safely on their own through GitLab CI/CD.
  • Champion the evolution of deployment patterns on Kubernetes, including blue/green, canary, feature-flag, and immutable-infra releases that minimize risk and Mean Time To Recovery (MTTR).
  • Lead the strategy and execution for disaster recovery plans on AWS, including scaling to multi-region architectures, cross-region data replication (Aurora, DynamoDB, S3), and global traffic management.
  • Implement Site Reliability Objectives (SLOs), error budgets, chaos testing, and auto-remediation playbooks in Datadog to raise the reliability bar, and own the infrastructure on-call rotation culture.
  • Mentor and develop a diverse team of DevOps engineers, DBAs, and SecOps Engineers with a wide variety of technical skillsets, cultivating the next wave of engineering leaders.
  • Partner hand-in-hand with Product Engineering Teams, our Data Team (Airflow, Snowflake, dbt), and other stakeholders to align roadmaps and unlock velocity.
  • Contribute hands-on by writing Terraform modules, optimizing Helm charts on Kubernetes, reviewing merge requests in GitLab, helping support the team with reactive work across our Linux infrastructure, and joining high-severity incident calls when needed.
Your experience:
  • 2+ years of DevOps leadership managing DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams.
  • 7+ years in hands-on platform or infrastructure roles.
  • You have a strong self-service track record, having delivered internal platforms or portals that empowered hundreds of engineers to ship autonomously.
  • You bring large-scale AWS expertise, demonstrated by designing and operating multi-region, high-throughput systems that support over $100 million in annual Gross Merchandise Value (GMV).
  • An expert in advanced CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC), proficient with tools like GitLab CI (or similar), Terraform, and Kubernetes, and comfortable introducing progressive delivery, policy-as-code, and secrets management at scale.
  • Deep understanding of metrics, tracing, logging, and alerting, reflecting an observability mindset, with experience using Datadog or comparable stacks.
  • Familiar with cloud security best practices, least-privilege access, and regulated-data environments such as PCI, SOC 2, and GDPR, demonstrating security and compliance awareness.
  • You exhibit empathetic leadership, with demonstrated success fostering psychological safety, inclusion, and continuous feedback while driving accountability and high performance.
$150,000 - $190,000 a year
  • We know that making decisions about your career and compensation is a huge deal. Because of that, we're incredibly thoughtful about our compensation strategy. We want you to feel safe and excited, but also comfortable with the compensation package of a startup. We've outlined some important information for you here, but please know there's a lot more to compensation than we can cover in this job posting.
  • The posted salary range is the base salary for this opportunity. The salary range is subject to change, and may be adjusted in the future.
  • The actual annual salary paid for this position will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to: your prior experience and skills related to the position, geographic location, company needs, current market demands, and your total compensation goals.
  • This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus expected to be 10% of your base salary.
  • Great humans deserve great benefits! At Loop, you'll be eligible for benefits such as: medical, dental, and vision insurance, flexible PTO, company holidays, sick & safe leave, parental leave, 401k, monthly wellness benefit, home workstation benefit, phone/internet benefit, and equity.
