Role Overview
The Azure DevOps Migration Lead serves as the day-to-day delivery lead and primary client-facing technical resource for an enterprise Azure DevOps organization and tenant migration initiative. This role is responsible for leading current-state discovery, establishing the target-state identity and governance operating model, developing end-to-end migration runbooks, and directing technical teams through rehearsal and production cutover. The Migration Lead also provides technical oversight for implementation engineers while ensuring structured cross-party stakeholder alignment.
Key Responsibilities

Architecture, Strategy & Operating Model
• Lead current-state discovery and comprehensive inventory validation across projects, repositories, and build pipelines.
• Confirm and establish the supported Azure DevOps organization and Microsoft Entra ID tenant transition strategy.
• Define the target-state identity, access management, platform administration, and operating model.
• Lead technical assessments of Azure Repos, multi-stage YAML pipelines, self-hosted build agents, extensions, and external dependencies.
Migration Planning & Governance
• Develop comprehensive migration artifacts, including detailed runbooks, testing strategies, cutover checklists, and rollback plans.
• Lead migration rehearsals, technical readiness reviews, go/no-go decision gates, and production cutover execution.
• Manage project risks, issues, assumptions, decisions, dependencies, and client action items.
• Provide direct technical guidance, task allocation, and quality review for hands-on Azure DevOps implementation engineers.
Stakeholder Management & Delivery
• Serve as the primary technical liaison across multi-party client stakeholders, engineering leads, and external partners.
• Facilitate technical workshops and discovery sessions to translate technical findings into actionable execution plans.
• Produce executive-ready status reports, technical architecture documentation, and post-cutover stabilization summaries.
Required Qualifications
• 8 or more years of experience in DevOps engineering, cloud infrastructure, and technical project leadership.
• 4 or more years of hands-on experience administering and configuring Azure DevOps Services.
• Proven track record planning and executing complex Azure DevOps organization, project, tenant, or identity migrations.
• Deep technical knowledge of Azure Repos, YAML pipelines, self-hosted agent pools, service connections, and secure files.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID, including user/group RBAC, service principals, and modern authentication protocols.
• Proficiency with Azure DevOps REST APIs, Azure CLI, PowerShell, or equivalent scripting tools for discovery and automation.
• Demonstrated experience facilitating technical workshops, managing client expectations, and translating business requirements into migration strategies.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience managing enterprise tenant separations, divestitures, or corporate acquisitions.
• Familiarity with JFrog Artifactory integration and MATLAB / Simulink build toolchains.
• Experience supporting embedded software engineering build environments and pipelines.
