Role Context
This position is based within a petrochemical manufacturing facility and supports assigned operating units in a production environment. The role sits closely alongside Operations and Process Engineering teams, with involvement in plant improvement initiatives, capital projects, and operational support activities. The working environment is focused on process safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support and maintain process control applications for assigned operating units.
  • Develop, modify, tune, and optimize control strategies to improve operational performance.
  • Design and implement control strategies for plant projects, process improvements, and new product initiatives.
  • Provide technical support for distributed control systems, PLCs, automation systems, and safety instrumented systems.
  • Support advanced process control and multivariable control applications.
  • Work closely with Operations and Process Engineering teams to achieve production, quality, and energy efficiency targets.
  • Participate in process safety activities, including management of change, process hazard analysis, layer of protection analysis, and incident investigations.
  • Support alarm management programmes, including alarm rationalization activities and KPI improvement efforts.
  • Develop operator graphics and provide training on new or modified control strategies.
  • Support capital projects and participate in factory acceptance testing as required.
  • Monitor unit performance and identify opportunities for optimization and continuous improvement.
  • Provide coverage for other process control engineering activities as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Essential:
    Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Essential:
    Minimum of 5 years of experience in Process Control, Process Engineering, Operations Engineering, or a related discipline within a refinery or petrochemical facility.
  • Essential:
    Must possess or be eligible to obtain a TWIC Card.
  • Essential:
    Strong knowledge of process control systems, automation, and control strategy development.
  • Essential:
    Experience supporting process safety management and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Essential:
    Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Essential:
    Experience with Foxboro IA and Emerson DeltaV platforms.
  • Desirable:
    Experience with PLC systems including Triconex, GE Fanuc, Mark V, and Mark VII.
  • Desirable:
    Advanced process control and multivariable control experience.
  • Desirable:
    Batch and continuous process control experience.
  • Desirable:
    Control network management experience.
  • Desirable:
    Experience participating in PHA and LOPA studies.
  • Desirable:
    Proficiency with SAP, Microsoft Office Suite, and standard business systems.
  • Desirable:
    Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills, with a focus on process improvement and operational excellence.
