Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Wellness Associate is responsible for managing the fitness floor, ensuring cleanliness, and being responsive to members and guests by aiding, and educating them on the safe and correct use of cardio and weight training equipment. This person answers facility-related questions, provides a warm welcoming to the members, and sells personal training packages. Must be will to work 34 hours weekly and have weekend flexability.

PAY RANGE:

16.94/hour max 34 hours weekly

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide superior customer service: greeting members cheerfully, acknowledging and interacting with them during shift
  • Assist participants while they are using the Wellness & Base Fitness Centers, frequently circulating the rooms to ensure they are clean, in order, and that all members are safe and adhering to rules
  • At all times wear your staff shirt and pin
  • Cell phones are to be put away on shift. Emergency use only!
  • Assist with scheduling new member orientations and outreach
  • Maintain a clean, safe and orderly fitness floor, which includes: racking weights, cleaning equipment, picking up loose towels, water bottles, magazines, etc.
  • Support and encourage members to meet his/her fitness goals, which includes learning our equipment and teaching them how to use it
  • Actively endorse and sell personal training packages
  • Answer phone and provide support to members and/or staff that call into the Wellness Center
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Administer emergency care to members and guests in need of assistance and notify proper personnel of any problems that arise
  • Incorporate and promote the YMCA mission as you carry out your responsibilities
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
  • Complete injury, illness and security incident reporting when necessary

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2 or 4-years college degree in fitness-related field or certificate from an accredited 2-year program at a university preferred
  • Previous health club experience is a plus
  • Communication skills, customer service oriented
  • Be well-organized and highly efficient when managing your work.
  • Be a team player and show a willingness to learn new things.
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, and highly responsive with a commitment to customer service
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer skills, customer service skills, results-oriented, ability to multitask, and commitment to the fitness industry
  • Attend a minimum of 2 in house training sessions offered by the Greenwich YMCA (C.P.R. and First Aid reviews are mandatory and count as one training session).
  • Proof of citizenship or legal status

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to take the responsibility for the health and safety of others
  • Ability to stand and walk around for several hours in the same shift; ability to lift 45 lbs
  • Fitness club environment
  • Must follow OSHA and Active Wellness safety standards
  • Must have weekend flexability.
  • Ability to work 34 houurs weekly.
