To thrive as a Developmental Assistant, you generally need a background in human services, psychology, or a related field, often with certification in first aid and CPR. Familiarity with assistive technology, documentation software, and client care systems is typically expected. They assist clients in daily living activities, help implement treatment or educational plans, and encourage social and personal development. Developmental Assistants often encounter challenges such as adapting communication methods to meet each individual's needs, managing behavioral issues with patience and professionalism, and maintaining a safe, supportive environment.
