POSITION SUMMARY:

The Communications Associate supports NMICs fundraising and donor engagement efforts by managing the production and coordination of donor-facing communications, digital content, and promotional materials. Working closely with the Director of Development and Development Associate, this role helps ensure that NMICs messaging, visual materials, and communications channels effectively support fundraising campaigns, donor stewardship, and organizational visibility.

This position is responsible for developing and managing social media content, maintaining the organizations website, producing digital and print materials for fundraising initiatives, and supporting communications related to development events and campaigns. The ideal candidate is creative, organized, and able to manage multiple communications projects while maintaining strong attention to detail and brand consistency.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Donor Communications & Development Materials

  • Work with the Director of Development to implement and manage the departments communications plan and schedule.

  • Prepare donor stewardship materials including newsletters, updates, and donor communications.

  • Coordinate the preparation of the organizations Annual Report, including drafting content and gathering visual materials.

  • Assist with preparing materials for donor meetings, site visits, and cross-departmental initiatives.

  • Support fulfillment of sponsor and partner recognition deliverables throughout the year.

  • Coordinate communications priorities across development campaigns, stewardship initiatives, and events.

Social Media Management
  • Develop and draft content for NMICs social media platforms to support fundraising campaigns, events, and organizational visibility.

  • Manage the social media calendar and publishing schedule.

  • Publish approved content across social media platforms and ensure consistency with organizational messaging.

  • Monitor basic engagement metrics and help inform future social media content.

  • Ensure proper acknowledgment of government funders across digital media platforms as required including social media, website, and newsletter.

Graphic Design & Communications Materials
  • Design print and digital materials that support fundraising campaigns, events, and outreach initiatives in Canva.

  • Create promotional materials such as flyers, invitations, and visual assets for fundraising efforts.

  • Develop visual materials for development events including programs, signage, and sponsor recognition materials.

  • Produce visual assets for the website and digital platforms.

  • Coordinate programmatic asset requests with graphic designer.

  • Oversee internal coordination of capital or special graphic design requests like signage and printed materials.

  • Maintain brand consistency across communications materials and digital channels.

Website Content & Management
  • Draft and update content for the organizations website, including donor-facing and fundraising content.

  • Ensure program and fundraising information on the website remains current and accurate.

  • Maintain and update website pages, visual assets, and routine content updates.

  • Ensure the website supports donor engagement and fundraising initiatives.

  • Ensure proper acknowledgment of government funders on the website.

Grant Writing & Development Support
  • Provide editing and drafting support to the Grant Writer during peak proposal periods.

  • Assist with drafting proposal narratives and supporting materials for private funders.

  • Format proposal attachments according to funder requirements.

  • Maintain an organized library of documents commonly required for grant submissions.

  • Support in monitoring private grant application portals for proposal status updates and notifications.

Fundraising Events & Campaign Support
  • Create promotional and communications materials for fundraising events.

  • Prepare event collateral such as invitations, programs, signage, and sponsor materials.

  • Support communications related to fundraising campaigns and appeals.

  • Assist with post-event communications and follow-up materials.

  • Assist with logistics and preparation for fundraising events, including NMICs benefit and other events.

Qualifications

  • 24 years of experience in nonprofit communications, marketing, development communications, or a related field.

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to prepare clear and engaging donor-facing communications.

  • Experience managing social media platforms and digital content calendars.

  • Experience producing graphic design or communications materials (experience with tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms preferred).

  • Experience updating website content using a content management system (CMS).

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple communications projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues across departments and manage competing priorities.

SALARY/BENEFITS:

NMIC offers a generous benefits package including medical, dental, life, and disability insurance; paid time off consisting of 20 vacation days, 15 sick days, 5 personal days, 11 agency holidays, plus the week off from Christmas Eve through New Year's Day; a 401k with agency contribution; and other benefits.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $75,000
