Overview

The Director, Asset Recovery & Law Enforcement Relations leads CalAmp's asset recovery efforts involving stolen vehicles, cargo, trailers, industrial heavy equipment, and other connected assets equipped with CalAmp devices. When an asset is reported stolen, goes off track, or generates a recovery-related alert, this role engages directly with the appropriate law enforcement agency in the relevant jurisdiction and helps coordinate recovery support as needed.This is a hands-on, senior individual contributor role responsible for active recovery support, law enforcement engagement, customer escalation support, and the ongoing enhancement of CalAmp's recovery capabilities and external agency relationships.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Own and continuously improve CalAmp's law enforcement engagement and asset recovery processes to improve recovery effectiveness, response times, and customer outcomes. Respond to recovery-related incidents involving stolen or diverted vehicles, cargo, trailers, industrial heavy equipment, and other CalAmp-enabled assets. Coordinate with the appropriate law enforcement jurisdiction when a device alert, customer report, or asset movement indicates possible theft, diversion, or unauthorized activity. Escalate matters to higher levels of law enforcement, including state agencies or the FBI, when incidents involve interstate movement, cargo theft, heavy equipment, organized theft activity, or other complex recovery situations. Provide law enforcement with timely, accurate information related to CalAmp device activity, asset location, movement history, and recovery support, consistent with company procedures and legal requirements. Partner with customers, sales, operations, engineering, customer support, and recovery teams to support active recovery matters and post-incident follow-up. Conduct training and informational sessions for law enforcement agencies, police academies, industry groups, customers, and internal teams regarding CalAmp recovery capabilities and protocols. Monitor recovery activity, trends, customer requirements, network resources, and law enforcement feedback to help improve recovery effectiveness and coverage.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and execute CalAmp's law enforcement engagement and asset recovery strategy to improve recovery effectiveness, response times, and customer outcomes. Must be available to assist with time-sensitive law enforcement and recovery matters, including after-hours support, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require. Assess recovery incidents and determine the appropriate level of law enforcement engagement based on asset type, location, jurisdiction, urgency, and scope of the matter. Personally lead coordination during active recovery situations, ensuring timely communication with the appropriate law enforcement contacts, customers, and internal stakeholders. Maintain documentation of recovery activity, agency contacts, escalation steps, outcomes, and follow-up items. Support cross-jurisdictional recovery efforts when assets move across city, county, state, or national boundaries. Identify and maintain key law enforcement contacts in high-risk or high-volume recovery areas, including contacts familiar with cargo theft, commercial vehicle theft, and heavy equipment recovery. Partner with sales and account teams to support customer confidence in recovery services and provide subject matter expertise when needed. Support strategic customer discussions, escalations, and business development efforts where asset recovery expertise or law enforcement credibility is required. Provide feedback to engineering, product, operations, and leadership regarding device performance, recovery trends, field challenges, and law enforcement needs. Prepare incident summaries, recovery reporting, trend analysis, and executive updates as needed. Participate in relevant industry meetings, law enforcement events, trade shows, seminars, and customer meetings. Provide testimony or factual support in legal hearings or proceedings when required to support recovery actions or law enforcement activity. Investigate and validate warranty, device performance, or recovery-related issues as needed.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Strong understanding of law enforcement structure, jurisdictional responsibilities, escalation paths, and agency protocols. Strong knowledge of stolen vehicle recovery, cargo theft, commercial vehicle theft, heavy equipment theft, and cross-jurisdictional investigations. Ability to determine when an incident may require local, state, or federal law enforcement involvement. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with law enforcement, customers, internal teams, and senior leadership, including in urgent or sensitive situations. Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to develop trust and credibility with law enforcement agencies and internal stakeholders. Ability to analyze device alerts, location data, movement trends, reports, and other recovery-related information to support decision-making. Ability to manage multiple active matters, establish priorities, and respond with appropriate urgency. Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong judgment, discretion, and ability to handle confidential or sensitive information appropriately. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn internal systems and recovery tools.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Public Administration, Business, or related field preferred, but not required. 10+ years of progressive experience in law enforcement, investigations, asset recovery, cargo theft, commercial theft investigations, fleet security, telematics, or a related field. Prior experience working with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, including multi-jurisdictional investigations, strongly preferred. Experience involving cargo theft, stolen vehicle recovery, heavy equipment recovery, organized theft investigations, or interstate recovery matters highly preferred. Experience presenting to law enforcement agencies, customer groups, or industry organizations preferred. Valid motor vehicle operator's license required. Ability to travel, including on short notice when business or recovery situations require in-person support, agency engagement, customer meetings, or industry events.
